So have been reading more into this new champions league format starting next season and it actually looks quite refreshing. 36 teams all going into 1 big league. Teams are split into 4 pots and are assigned into them due to their club coefficient ranking. Once the draw is made you will play 2 teams from each of the 4 pots with 1 tie from each pot being at home and a 2nd away from home. Points are the same as a normal league, 1 for a draw and 3 for a win plus goal difference.

Teams 1-8 qualify direct to the last 16 with teams 9-24 going into a play off. Remaining teams are then out of Europe completely, no fall back of the Europa League.

Actually think this could be brilliant, getting a chance to play 8 different teams in the group stage as opposed to 3, also getting a couple games against teams coming from the same pot as yourself should also hopefully make it easier to get some points / win bonuses. And actually think it would be easier to get into the play offs for the last 16.

Now we just need to make sure that we finish the job and close out the league this season to get straight into it.

Is there any way after the new group stage format that a team can end up in the Europa League?

No, theres no dropping into the Europa League from the group stage. Only before hand if you lose in the qualifying rounds

Yeah, whatever 2 countries do best in the previous season each get an extra spot. Also, if the winner of the champions league have already qualified then that place goes to the team with the best coefficient from countries 11 - 55 which is looking like Shaktar Donetsk.

That’s only next season and season after but then depending on how we do it could mean 2026/27 season will only have 1 team in CL and it will be 3 qualifiers to be played

The new draws for the group/league games are going to be completely pointless though. They will only be drawing the teams from the pot then be told by the computer which games they got.
So starting with Pot 1, the nine teams gets picked out of the bucket and then the computer assigns one home and one away against teams from all 4 pots. Then moves to pot 2 to draw against the next 3 pots, then the 3rd against the 3rd and 4th pots and finally the 4th which probably will fully automated.

I’d imagine there the matches are probably already set beforehand and it just a matter of the order it gets read out. Pretty pointless in my opinion. And especially considering we will be in pot 4 then it will be pointless tuning in for the draw

With the teams that are looking likely to qualify this year, if get in then think we might get pot 3

we are currently 59th behind teams like Qarabag, Ferencvaros, Maccabi Tel Aviv and LASK.
I did a quick count and with the teams that are currently placed to be in the CL based on their current league positions etc, we will be ranked someone around 32 give or take. There will be some teams above us that will be in qualifiers (such as the huns).

Having said that, since we will be playing 2 games against teams from each pot it doesn’t make that much of a difference in this format.

And you have also got teams from the bigger leagues who will be ranked below us if they qualify, Aston Villa, Girona, Brest, Monaco, Sturm Graz, Bologna, Stuttgart etc. I still think we can make pot 3

I don't think it really matters. You play 2 games against teams from each pot. It actually makes things quite equal. The potting system is only to split teams into categories as pot 1 teams still have to play other pot 1 teams.

The system does appear different this season. Previously it was league winners from top 6 countries, CL winner, EL winner with 7th best country if CL winner or EL winner were already seeded. Now it appears to be best 9 teams in pot 1 as Leverkusen are not guaranteed pot 1 but Dortmund, Leipzig and Bayern all are. As are Liverpool who can't win the league now. 8 teams already confirmed pot 1, final to be Leverkusen or Barcelona depending on EL final result.
