Not long into his first full season of management and I'm not sure quite how well he is handling the typically cheeky questions being thrown at him from the press. In my opinion the whole McGeady saga is being handled, for want of a better word, *. Why did he come out and say he will definately play last Wednesday when everyone including the manager knew there were major questions over him being cup tied?

Apart from the whole McGeady fiasco why does he seem to speak in public about every single signing we have any interest in, the whole Campbell and James things were embarrassing, particularly because we got knocked back by players who are too old, over paid and quite frankly *. Telling the press every step by step action you are taking in the transfer market also has the added danger of alerting other clubs to player's availability and relative cheap price (considering we're in the running).

Anyway don't want to be overly negative, it just seem's he's a bit niave in this regard.

    Learning curve.

By nature Lenny isn't one to BS people. But maybe he has to learn to keep his cards closer to his chest, yes.

Bit harsh.. The thing with transfers is it won't be Celtic leaking the interest , it's more likely the players or their agents and the players will have other options so it's not easy to keep our interest quiet.. Once it's public he might as well answer questions because it's not going to change things although it doesn't come across well when we're pulling out the stops to sign a past his prime player who looks like he spent his summer in burger king , yet treating Hinkel like an outcast , or waiting on a decision from a goalkeeper who eventually knocks us back for a club a few levels lower while selling a more than decent keeper in Boruc for not very much money..
I like the way Lenny does his press conferences , because he decides when it's over and he doesn't give patheric questioning the time of day.. I don't think he can be bothered with most of the interaction with the media that he has to do...
I also think there might be an underlying issue between him and Mcgeady but maybe it's been very workable , although I just feel once Mcgeady is sold and questions get asked about the sale that Lenny will say he's not interested in talking about him and is only interested in talking about Celtic players who are currently at the club.. Just a hunch though and I could be very wrong on that..

Think Lenny might be a bit too friendly with sections of the media and think this was obvious after last weeks result. I was expecting the press to absolutely slaughter us the next day but I actually thought they went fairly easy on what was a very poor performance. He seems to have more respect amongst the media than his predecessors did and this could be down to the fact that he is more open.
I would prefer it if he told the * nothing but he seems to prefer the honest approach.
At the end of the day, these things will only be looked at if he isn't getting results. If he delivers the SPL this season who will care what he tells the press?

I think Lenny is handling the press brilliantly.....We moan when we hear nothing from CP and now when we have a manager who doesn't bullshit but keeps us updated some people find fault with it. Don't mistake Lennon being forthright and upfront with the press as him being in anyway naive. So he said McGeady would play and he didn't......Why let the opposition know who would and wouldn't play before an important game?.....Nice move on his part I would say.

He never at any time said we would sign Bullard or Campbell he said he was hopeful....and being so upfront in front of the camera is good because it leave little room for the press to stir * up.

everyone had a moan about how mowbray handled the media as well. lets give lenny some room here. he's a couple months into the job. he'll figure it out. i do think he would do well to have a "i'm not a nice man" conversation with the press though

well you are right that it's not necessarily a negative thing the way he talks to the press, just fricken weird - like when being asked about 10m fee for McGeady he bluntly said that he didn't know if he would get any of the money - maybe i'm being pedantic but you don't tell the press that things like that are out of your hands, it sounds like you are not in full control, haven't been talking to the board or worse still makes you sound like Lawwel's puppet.

i guess you might feel that if you actually gave a * about what the absolute excuse for a press we have in this country. i hold them in such contempt that i really don't give a * what image lennon presents to them. i only care what he says, and he always at least think he is talking directly to the fans.

If you think that teams around the world search for emerging talent using the tabloids then you're sorely mistaken.

Players and agents do a fine job already by punting their name about clubs.

All Lennon is doing is giving the fans transparancy, that's all we've ever wanted was it not? In terms of knowing what's going on at my club, this has been the greatest pre-season yet.

As for the McGeady situation, Lennon said himself that he would have been playing...had he not picked up an injury on the day of the game (day before perhaps?) Either way, I don't see where the problem is.

Also, if you're embaressed that our club are chasing players of Campbell and Bullards like then you clearly don't want what's best for the club.

Don't tell me that Sol Campbell wouldn't improve our squad.

Some fans will find anything to moan about.

Maybe Campbell would improve the squad but the policy of big last pay cheques for past their prime English players has never sat well with me - I'd rather the money went on the likes of Juarez i.e. proper scouting.

I agree with you and so does Neil Lennon, clearly. He didn't budge on what he was offering wage wise, did he? Hence, Campbell went to Newcastle, James to Bristol City and Bullard to...well, no where, as far as I know lol

You can't fault Lennon for going after these guys, they might be a bit past it with regards to playing week in week out in the EPL but the SPL is a differant beast altogether. Davie Weir has looked like Franz * Beckenbauer at times up here because the standard is that low.

Also, we signed Juarez...so what you want, is exactly what Lennon has done...no cause for complaint then mate ;)

He clearly meant players like Juarez who are young and good players.

    * sakes you'd think people would be happy that Neil Lennon is trying to keep the fans informed of what's going on at the club. But NO. Some people want to shoot him down for that as well. You cannot win.

Personally I like the way Neil is handling the media and I like the fact that he is keeping the fans informed as much as he can. I'd much rather that than being kept completely in the dark the way we have been by previous managers.
