    Naylor Hoping For England Call
    Wed 14 Mar, 11:09 AM

Celtic left-back Lee Naylor hopes his eye-catching Champions League displays will earn him an England call-up for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Andorra.

Ashley Cole will miss the Israel match on March 24 through suspension, and his Chelsea colleague Wayne Bridge has been ruled out of that game and the Andorra clash four days later with a knee injury.

Jamie Carragher, Gareth Barry and Phil Neville are all contenders to stand in.

However Naylor, who represented England Under-21s earlier in his career but is uncapped at senior level, may also enter head coach Steve McClaren's thinking.

The 26-year-old former Wolves defender was outstanding against AC Milan last week, and said: "I will work my socks off every day for Celtic and if that gets the attention of the England boss, I will be absolutely delighted.

"It's my dream and I will continue to pursue that, but at the end of the day, it's up to the England boss to decide and it's a case of fingers-crossed."

Walsall-born Naylor joined Celtic from Wolves last August for £600,000 and has been a fixture in the Scottish champions' line-up since, helping them into the Champions League knock-out stages for the first time.

McClaren names his squad on Friday, and Naylor told Celtic View: "The Champions League does give you a better chance of getting looked at and possibly getting selected.

"I gave a good account of myself the other night, so hopefully I will have given him (McClaren) something to think about."

He easily deserves it. His consistant, solid performances this season MUST have a least caught the attention of Steve McClaren wether the fact he plays in Scotland will cause McClaren to ignore him remains to be seen. Wouldn't surprise me if it did as a long succession of England managers have done just that.

No doubt he'll make a squad soon just to humour us. He deserves it though.

Nah, thats too big a step up for him. It'll just be another Thompson if anything, one cap and never again.

Its the least he deserves but you know they will totaly ignore the fact he has played in the later stages of the champions league and go with the usal excuse "he plays in Scotland"

Well we all know that, ones in the SPL and the other in the EPL:87: Sorry, had to be said:84: Really think Naylor deserves a cheeky wee call up, especially if Cole is out.

He deserves a call up, if he plays I've no doubt that he'll play well.

This would only help him and he'd learn abit from players of a higher standard than at Celtic/SPL level.

He played well against Milan but prior to that his form had dipped quite a bit. Crossing which was a strong point went to pot for a while.
