the celtic symphony. I also don't really think the boys of the old brigade is appropriate. Mentioning words like the IRA, call to arms etc isn't either. Soldier's song is a great ballad though as are the rest of ours songs.

I'd rather we didn't sing it. I hate it at games when people shout IRA between songs. I mean honestly, what has the IRA or the UVA got to do with Celtic or Rangers? nothing. Just makes people look daft.

The thread asked name a sectarian song are supporters sing? Singing about Irish heroes isn't sectarian.

Those who rebelled against the British during the early 20th Century were heroes I agree. But associating Celtic FC with the IRA is just a non starter. There simply is no relationship there. Yet, I hear the chants and see the banners. People need to get off the bandwagon and stop adding 2 and 2 and coming up with 5.

Personally, I wish the SFA would * off. Our songs are harmless. They should have greater * worries.

It is secretarian in the sense that the chants and banners related to the IRA can be divisive from the rest of Scotland. Our Country. I appreciate as we all do that our club was founded by our Irish ancestors. But, this club was made great by Scotsmen. We can't continue to separate ourselves from the rest of the country with pro terrorist chants. Lest, our opponents will continue to lie down to the huns.

No they aren't sectarian. Not even slightly.

The club was made by Irish immigrants.

Don't call Irish patriots terrorists. If you think they are terrorists your ignoring history.

Our opponents would lie down to huns regardless.

You're trying to make the songs fit your definition of Sectarian.

By definition they are not Sectarian. That is simply a fact. There is no other way of looking at it. There is no "slightly" Sectarian. There is no "in a sense" Sectarian. By definition, they are not Sectarian in any way.

This argument has been done do death though. Everyone has differing opinions. I personally think we could leave IRA references out at the games. Not because i think they are Sectarian or wrong. Just because i don't really think it's appropriate. Republican songs i have no problem with. Just leave aside the ones mentioning the IRA and we give no one an excuse to have a go. Some people obviously still will but that will say more about them than us.

If we did that I fear we would be caving into bigots. Obviously anyone that knows basic history and knows what the songs are about. Knows they aren't sectarian songs.

Only ignorant people would be offended by these songs. In my opinion.

I know where you're coming from mate and i have questioned that myself. If we drop certain songs, will they go after everything?

It's a hard one. I do see both sides for sure and i also find myself thinking, if it was songs about the British Military (who have killed a lot more innocents throughout the world that the IRA ever have) would there be the same reaction? I think not. it also woudln't be labelled sectarian. I have always hated how people in this country feel that the British Military are saints and heroes and any opposing force are murdering scumbags.

It's a tough one for sure!

Only bit I can think of is the ''Soon there will be Protestants at all'' instead of ''Dublin, Belfast, Cork or Donegal''
