Would you be happy if he came back to us?

No. He could never match what he did first time around. Martin O'Neill wouldn't put up with the boards penny pinching either.

I would not mind if he came back to be honest . I have my own feelings about when he left , he says it was about his sick wife to take care of her im not sure what the illness was but i think that was a bit of an excuse for him to leave

    Yes.

However he couldn't handle the current circumstances.

Yes, if Martin returned it would signal a change of mind by the board.

How are they rat * ? Martin O'Neill had has time and we will all remember it fondly. I see no reason why Neil Lennon can't match his achievements of a domestic treble and getting to the final of a European competition (Europa League obviously).

If Martin O'Neill people would get their hopes up of him creating a squad as good as the Seville one. That just isn't going to happen.

    I agree with this.

Neil's doing just fine. Lots of trophies still to win (here's looking at you, elusive League Cup).

No chance, would like to see him try to build a great team on the budget we're on now.

Also * us when he left, left us with an ageing team all on about 25-30 grand a week!

He was good because he could throw about as much cash as he wanted. Give St. Martin the money Lennon has and we'd only be in a similar position.

That was my first thought as well.( Not a great fan of these sort of threads but unlikely as it is. If it ever did happen and the board did persuade him to come it would signal real intent.) That is not to say for one minute I am criticising our current manager overall.

Yes, without question. He is an ideal job right now, however.

Nope. Managed a great team that took us to the Final, but left us with +£25m debt - huge in Scottish Football, an ageing and expensive Team and is the man who arranged Bobo's ludicrous contract that took us years to conclude - sign on for 4 years but if you find someone else in 6 months then go with our blessing and if you don't then we'll continue to meet your very high salary.' It was left to WGS to sort it out and he did so - reduced the debt, the number and age of the squad and got us into the last 16 of the CL.
Was told by someone who worked with the Club at the time that MON had control of the purse strings down to approving the cost of dental and medical treatment for players. No matter what Club you are looking at, times have changed and Clubs aren't prepared to allow Managers that much financial freedom because with it increases the chance that the debt can go higher and higher and bring the likelihood of administrators to the door ever closer.
A great Manager of his time but not suited to today's corporate football challenges, e.g. Villa and Sunderland.

Always find these threads disrespectful to the manager.

However Martin has just started a new job so I'm going to assume this is hypothetical.

Yes I would have Martin back when Lenny felt his time was up.

    Not voting though.

I think there is a bit of revisionism going on here when it comes to O'Neill saying he can only work with a huge budget. This ignores his achievements before he came to Celtic. Also the enormous boost he gave to Celtic and how much he took us on. I do agree the timing of his departure was unfortunate for Celtic ( though obviously he has to put his family first.) I can't see him managing Celtic again though.

As has already been said, he left us with an old, expensive squad and it took WGS to sort his mess out. No for me.
