Celtic are eyeing a move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The Premiership and Scottish Cup winners are on the look-out for a new No. 1 following Joe Hart’s retirement last month. Manager Brendan Rodgers believes the Toon’s Slovakian keeper can do a similar job at Celtic Park as Hart did in three hugely successful years north of the border. Though Dubravka is 35, he was a regular for Newcastle during the second half of last season and believes he can still play at a high level for another two years

With Nick Pope ahead of him at St James’ Park and the Geordies closing in on a £15m move for Burnley’s James Trafford, he will be allowed to leave after six years on Tyneside. Celtic, however, face stiff competition for the former Sparta Prague shotstopper with several club on the continent and at least two Saudi clubs interested in him

I know the age is a problem but I’d definitely take him.

Kind of hoping we find a keeper more in his prime that we can get a few years out of. Yes it's possible to get a similar outcome as Hart but then in a couple of years we are back to square one. Hart was a bargain due to the career slip but Dubravka would have a decent fee attached.

Good keeper, but wouldn't be a long term solution.

Would ideally be signing a keeper who could be first choice for us for the next 5 years.

Who's leaking these names out. We're in to double figures alone for GK. Someone at Celtic having fun wi the media.

Not a credible link to any of them.

Was rumours about him last summer toward end of the window.

Either we have a long term interest or it's lazy journalism.

Decebt keeper, good with his feet and very vocal so wouldn't be against this. Age is slight issue as onky gonna get couple of years out of him before we are starting process again. Ideally someone around 30-31 would be better

Rate him as a goalkeeper tbh but would've preferred someone a bit younger rather than go down the short term route again as we did with Hart.

We need two new keepers. Would mind him if I’m honest.

But I would want someone younger in.

I think it is perfect for a young team like us to get a commanding 35 year old GK in. Im all for this.

He's a good keeper. I'd be happy with him.

I'd 100% take him. Good, experienced keeper. I'd also be happy with bringing in a slightly younger keeper with more long-term value, but if we go down this route then Dubravka is a good choice.

I wonder if we signed him if, on a deal for a coupe of years whether we would also buy someone like the young Aston Villa goalkeeper to play alongside him? Was is Sinisalo? He had a really good season with Exeter on loan and we were linked previously.

Dubravka in for next year, with Sinisalo taking his place a year later after developing under him, maybe?

    Bain, happy with his role..

3yr deal signed last year too.

I rate Dubravka, it's short term tho.

Would be such a lazy and uninspiring signing. He’s bang average and on the way down.

Plus he’s pish with the ball at his feet.

Much like the begovic rumour, it depends.

On his own, no. Absolutely not.

As part of a weird duo, where we sign another 26/28 year old and we use the lad as backup/fall safe, incase the 26 year old ends up like Barkas.

We shouldn't be signing a 35 year old any more.

I know keepers can play a few years more than outfield, but at 35, we get s decent season maybe? Then he drops off a cliff? Maybe 2 or 3 if we get lucky?

Rather 3-4 years of a younger keeper that could then be sold.

Either way though, we need to actively start pre planning these things and have the next one lined up/in the building for a year, do we don't end up in the same constant situation of needing a quick short term fix.

In my opinion we should use class keepers in the mid 30s like Joe Hart and Dubravka. I think having that experience around a young backline is great, especially for europe. I would obviously agree in every other position on the park except GK. Even in the middle of the park i think it is time we start bringing in 26-29 year old players to mix it up. Im afraid we won't get results in europe with full squads of 20-23 year olds.
