It's pretty clear he's not a striker. I know it's early, but strikers score goals.

    So what is he?

Personally, I like the look of his play, particularly on the right side, but he's not a winger either. He's skilfull, has good control, good touch, creates space for others, brings others into play.

But he's not a midfielder, neither.

He's like the man in the middle: in the hole between midfield and attack, linking up the two areas.

The guys calling him a 'dud' are being too hasty. He hasn't been brought in to score goals, IMO he's been brought in to help create them.

He's a forward that works hard and creates space and chances for others. That's what we were told he was and that's what he is, anyone slating him for not scoring can't say the wool was pulled over their eyes because Mowbray and Grant stated clearly what type of player he is.

He is a striker, but he isnt a finisher. He plays like Big John by pulling the opposing players all over the shop and creating space. He dragged 2 players with him yesterday to create space for McGeady's second and set up his first.

    oh for crying out loud!!:31:

exactly what hammer said! mowbray said before we even bought him what type of player he was! he makes lots of space for others in the team, mcgeady benifits from this as you see him in the middle now.

He's gony drift into good areas and turn defenders, he's looked nervous until yesterday, he'll get 10 league goals this season. He's what we've been missing last year and he will help Aiden Shaun and Skippy get more goals than they did last year.

Yeah mate, that was the point of this thread, and pretty much what I said in my opening post.

I've seen a couple of morons on in here (check the guy in the Chris Killen to Fulham thread and his comment on Fortun'e), deriding the guy as a 'dud', so the point of this is really for all of us to let these morons know for once and for all exactly what type of player he is.

He's the kind of forward you'd use in a Dutch 433.
I like what he does, but still think we need another goal poacher when Skippy can't do it.

Hes a more CF kind of role instead a striker running between the channels and dragging players out of position. Mowbray has nailed this with allowing Mcgeady, Maloney & Even Donati too get forward and exploit the space that Fortune has opened up.

    Fortune

Hes a second striker, He is the striker that creates goals & Scott McDonald is the striker that scores goals, bit like Sutton & Larsson's partnership, member in 00-01' season they scored 66 between each other, but Larsson scored 53 of them Sutton only 13, Fortune is Sutton really, He will score but not that many, but his work rate looks really good, & from the goals I have seen him score for Nancy he scores goals from ridiculous angles & he nearly did it yesterday against Aberdeen if u saw it, tight angle & nearly squeezed it in, he will be good for the team, just dont expect him to score a * load of goals, but he will work hard & get proberly bout 10-12 goals this season, which if we win the title is good enuff for me :icon_mrgreen:

He's a forward player, striker if you like it like that. But he doesn't score much. As people said here, he's like Hartson, creating space and moving defenders' arses around while others who are goalscorers can freely use created space and his passes.

Hes a strong guy with skill, pace and awareness and he IS a striker.

Cant believe the stick the guy is getting.

He'll score goals, looks like he's been reading the press too much on yesterdays evidence, he was * shooting from everywhere!

its the fans expecting him to score a hat-trick every single game, even though its been stated before that he is more of a link up player allowing midfielders to score goals rather than a finisher himself, and look what happened yesterday, mcgeady scored 2.

anyway he probably doesnt want the fans to turn on him ( which alot have already ) because it will in turn effect his game. he's trying to play the way the fans want him to(scoring goals), rather than what he is supposed to do, which will then make more fans turn on him, effecting his game more, causing us problems up-front.

he is an attacker/forward, definatly not a finisher. would like to see him play just behind strikers, in a 3 man up frontal system, or maybe even up front alone with 2 attacking midfielders like scott brown and scott mcdonald right behind him

I'd have Sammy before him anyday, but I hope I'm proven wrong and he turns out to be much better than I think he is !
