He's got to be better than Moyes, in fact I would have been better than Moyes.

Maybe more concerning than the choice of manager is the state of that squad,it needs major investment in so many areas all at the same time

    Yup! A significant overhaul!

Wonder how Rooney will cope with a tough taskmaster who won't baby-talk him? I suspect the tubby little mercenary will be throwing his toys out of the pram by Xmas!

Has the best win percentage in Europe of any Manager, including Mourinho.

Stats and statements can be twisted however you want them.

He signed Edson Braafheid for Bayern Munich, class manager.

He is brilliant, perfect for united. Completely the opposite from Mr nice guy Moyes.

He also signed Robben and Gomez on top of converting Schweinsteiger from a winger to the world class holding midfielder he is today. He played a key role in laying the foundations one of the best Bayern Munich sides ever.

There is no reason why he can't do the same at Manchester United. They are the perfect match imo.

He's a great manager, but think you Man Utd fans will be sick of him in 1.5 years or maybe earlier.

Although I rate him as one of my favourite managers of all time football wise, his handling with the media is absolutely embarrassing and am glad he leaves the Netherlands post after the WC. Think you will enjoy his press-conferences and pre-game interviews at first, but he's an absolute * towards 99% of the media even when asked geniune questions.

As a coach I think he can be brilliant, although as soon people disagree with him or just have a different opinion he can be an absolute *.

I wonder what the English press will make of him though. :56:

His teams always seem to be great but don't really win anything.

They should give him the free hand for them 3 years he signed. Don't expect him to win the title in his first year either though.

This team need whipped into shape and shown that the players are NOT running the show.

Van Gaal will command their respect and their committment, if not they will be out the door.

I hear ya (and agree with the sentiment), but I fear that the days of managers commanding respect are long gone. A not-to-be-*-with manager won't last long in the PL as the poor wee sensitive man-boy players will revolt if they're not mollycoddled and get him the sack!

Fergie was the last succesful tyrant (and even he was mellowing in his latter years to suit the present culture). :54:

I wouldn't say van Gaal is a "tyrant" per-se, but he certainly is an authorative figure with a stern approach.

The board will have recognised that the players badly let the team down this season, and I believe they will cater to HIS bidding if needs be.
