Aye, had a good look at those pics myself and was really surprised that none of those political protesters weren't holding placards....maybe they dropped them as they were trying to catch all those freebies that miraculously flew off the shelves into their hands

For me its its paradoxical when people try to claim that police treatment of youths in these areas is partially to blame. these areas are rife with gun/knife crime, drug dealing and gang culture meaning the police have to be heavy handed. the very same people claiming this would only complain that the police didn't do enough if they weren't targeting the gangs or those that fit the "gang profile".
the economical arguement is just nonsense imo. the saddest sight, i thought, was the sony warhouse. Yes its a huge faceless company that this is just a drop in the ocean to, but how many people in that area have now lost their job due to this.

How anyone can read through that spreadsheet and say it's some sort of political revolution is beyond me, wanton thuggery, destruction and violence by a bunch of primadona youths who want everything handed to them on a plate right now.

Pity it's not winter so the fire brigade could skoosh them with the hose forcing them to go home or freeze. Last night in my work we were discussing how up here in Scotland we'd be to lazy to riot...:56:Couldn't disagree.

In your own link the only criticism of the BBC is that they're making out the protestors as only vandals and criminals... so... :97:

That's if there's enough Fire brigade workers to waste time doing that. The Conservative Government have seen fit to implement harsh cuts in all of the emergency services in London, backed by their appointed official Boris "Character from Jeeves & Wooster" Johnson.

In fairness, I think there's hardly anyone claiming that it's a political revolution.

But the causes of it are largely political. Six out of the ten worst unemployment blackspots in London are also in the top ten areas now facing the largest government cuts. That seeems the wrong way round, no? The Government is targeting the poor, because they have the least ability to defend themselves.

Because the problem is no jobs, doesn't mean a riot will somehow selforganise to target the jobcentres.
If the problem is random stop-&-search by police, it doesn't mean they will only target police stations - although that is certainly happening.
Because the problem comes from the government closing down their youth centres, it doesn't mean they'll target the committee that made the decision. They don't even know who they are.

You're right, of course - they do want everything handed to them on a plate right now. That's what our society teaches them to want, by constantly bombarding them with adverts for things they can't afford, and will never be able to afford. We can condemn all we want - and many of their actions are worthy of condemnation. But the fact remains that the political makeup of our society has created the conditions which brought about these riots: they were entirely predictable.
