BBC Sport - Football - Celtic chairman John Reid backs ref allegiance plea

Celtic chairman John Reid says proposals for referees to declare their allegiances should be considered.
The suggestion had been made by SNP MP Pete Wishart after Celtic had recently complained about several decisions.
"Maybe Peter Wishart's proposals about referees declaring their allegiances should be considered as part of the process," said Reid.
"We're not asking for special treatment but neither will we be treated as less than anyone else. Those days are gone."
The Scottish Football Association has previously been keen on television pictures being used to help referees, but this was rejected by Fifa.
However, world football's governing body has recently decided to look again at the possibility.
    <table width="231" align="right" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tbody><tr> <td width="5">[IMG]</td> <td class="sibStdQuote">
</td> </tr> </tbody></table> And, speaking at Celtic's annual meeting, Reid said: "Maybe we should ask about video technology to help referees."
Celtic wrote to the SFA seeking clarification over decisions to overturn a penalty award against Dundee United and a penalty given against them in their defeat by Rangers.
The Tannadice incident led to referee Dougie McDonald being warned for giving a false explanation to Celtic manager Neil Lennon - and to the resignation of assistant referee Steven Craven.
Addressing around 200 of the club's shareholders, former defence secretary Reid said "bold, radical action" must be taken to combat "stories of lies, conspiracies and cover-ups" within Scottish football.
Celtic's letters led to a meeting between chief executive Peter Lawwell and his SFA counterpart Stewart Regan, who has promised an overhaul of the refereeing system.
And, despite criticism from some quarters that Celtic were putting undue pressure on officials, Lawwell defended his club's stance to shareholders.
"We lost the league last year because we weren't good enough, but we reserve the right to query decisions," he said. "It's not sour grapes or paranoia.
"Stewart Regan has promised us a full review of referee procedures. But, not just that, a full review of the SFA as a whole."
Lawwell saw a brighter future for the club under the present team management, led by Neil Lennon, who took over after the sacking of Tony Mowbray.
"Last year on the pitch was clearly unacceptable," said the chief executive.
"We have a new young vibrant managerial team led by Neil Lennon that will be here for a very long time."
Reid shouldered the blame for the appointment of Mowbray, the former Celtic defender who was previously with West Brom and has recently taken charge of Middlesbrough.
"We got off to a false start under Mowbray," he said. "But we managed to avoid some of the catastrophic financial failures that others fell into.
"Tony Mowbray's appointment was a mistake and I ultimately take responsibility for that."

    What good what that do?

They'll only pledge allegiance to the likes of Thistle, Clyde and Queens Park.

McDonald should no longer be a referee, says Celtic chief

Dougie McDonald should no longer be a referee, says Celtic chief | Football | STV Sport

Celtic chairman John Reid has stated his belief that Dougie McDonald should no longer be a referee. The official, who was at the centre of a controversial incident involving Celtic at Tannadice last month, admitted his reporting of the circumstances surrounding the reversal of a penalty decision had not been truthful.
After an investigation by the SFA, McDonald was backed by the governing body but warned about his reporting. The referee was given a match in the First Division following the decision before returning to the top-flight last weekend.
Celtic chief Reid said at a press conference today that he believed the official should have resigned or, failing that, been sacked.
"His position ought be completely untenable," he said.
"Nobody who has admitted to lying to our manager, over important decisions at a game, should remain in post.
"He should go and if he didn't resign, he should have been removed from post.
"There cannot be integrity in a system that allows a referee to lie and, allegedly, to try and get others to lie on a crucail decision affecting a game.."
The Celtic chairman was speaking to the press following the club's AGM. During the meeting, Reid said he a suggestion that referees should declare club allegiances was a topic worth discussing.
"Referees should maybe show their allegiances," he said. "I heard Pete Wishart from the SNP state his case for refs declaring who they support.

It's good to see John Reid and Celtic demanding the resignation of that monkey Dougie McDonald, and for Steven Regan and the SFA to clean up their own house. McDonald's position is untenable, and if Regan is true to his word, then we might just start getting a fair crack of the whip again.

It's the arrogance of Dougie McDonald that dumbfounds me. He STILL hasn't apologised to Neil Lennon for lying to him to his face. That just tells you what McDonald really thinks........he doesn't think he did anything wrong. Get him to *.

Reid is once again making our club the laughing stock of scottish football,it,s one thing getting that lying * mcdonald to * but to ask refs to tell us what team they follow is just stupid and draws attention to celtic for the wrong reasons, hail, hail.

And Lennon is about to get hammered by the same lenient SFA that disciplined McDonald?!

I'm glad Celtic have finally came out today and said something on theses matters but I'm struggling to understand why they wait till today and not come out and say something 1 or 2 weeks ago????? :97:

it's "fantastic" when lenny rips into the sfa but * forbid the "war criminal" do the exact same thing

What he said was very good and I liked the fact that he has came out and publicly put pressure on the SFA.

That doesn't change the fact that he's a * though.

I thought he was out standing today and said a lot of things we have been waiting weeks for someone from Celtic to say.

    His comments today;
"the position of mcdonald is untenable, the position of the SFA is untenable for protecting him".
"We're not asking for special treatment, but neither will we be treated as less than anyone else," he said. "Those days are gone."

All exactly what I wanted to here today he is the wrong man to * with he's not letting this lye, he is grabbing the SFA by the balls and twisting them. Something last week I never thought I would see happen from Celtic.

Good on ye Dr Reid :50:
