The 30 year old Bulgarian international LB has been offered to Celtic according to the Evening Times. That should make Stan a bit happier

 

You know I think this is the guy that Celtic rejected when he and Stan came over in '98. He would have been 22-23 then. If we wasn't good enough for us in 1998 he isn't now!

 

That is not the guy from 98' ... He was Milen Petkov .

Ivailo Petkov is a left back . Has many games for the NT and the biggest club he have competed for was Fenerbahce Istanbul . He has a good name in the turkish league ... but ...
Honestly i don't like his abbilities ... He scores some goals from free kicks , was very fast when he was young but is a bit frightened player , never played with balls for the NT . That's why i don't think he will be a good signing for Celtic , no matter he is my fellow country man .

BTW, Celtic should have bought Blagoj Georgiev ... He went to Crvena Zvezda this summer from the spanish Alaves and makes a great debut there , 2 goals in the first 3 friendlies of Zvezda . A killer duet woth Nicola Zigic . As i have heard , the fans in Belgrade think the bosses there made a very good summer signing in Georgiev .

 

Really trying to rub salt in our wounds are you? I think every Celtic fan I've talked to wanted us to get Georgiev for months but nothing happened. Very upsetting, but 'tis the Celtic way

Ivailo Petkov will sign as free agent with Celtic probably tommorow . That's what the bulgarian "Don Balon" wrote today . Petkov is flying to glasgow today and after medical examination will talk with GS about his personal contract options ... His las team this summer was the turkish Ankaraguidzu . He has 4 goals in 63 games for Bulgaria NT .

I must say I have never heard of this player before- (Ivailo Petkov) - untill now so lets hope hes a good left back and does a very good job for us in the CL coz i think TelferYes Telfer can still do a job in the SPL+Cup-Compentions but i would hate it if GS had to use Telfer in the CL coz i think we would get hammered down the left,I don't know if this lad has got CL experiance but lets hope so all we need now is a top-class striker for the CL.

I suppose that wont happen untill Petrov is sold but as long as Pompey come back in and bid £5million I see no-reason why the board would say no unless Stan wants to stay but I can't see it not now

 

only 2 news agencies from bulgaria have confirmed that news , so we must wait to see if it's going to be for real , although the sources are considered reliable .

I don't see why GS has to wait for Petrov's selling as Petkov is a free agent and he won't cost Celtic a penny .

I think the guy has some CL matches with Fenerbahce , but i am not sure ...

I am not a mad fan of Petkov , but if he comes to Celtic i will hope he will be a good signing ....

He played last spring for the turkish team Ankaragudzu in the Turkish Super Liga ... I think he finished the season with more than 80% of the games played and with 2 goals ... Since june he is a free agent .

i don't know if Stoichkov will call him for the next qualifiers ... He has been always a fire- variant on our left back as we haven't got much good players on that position . Since June we have the naturalized brazilian Lucio Wagner as left-back so i think Petkov will be a reserve if he gets called up in the NT again .
I think he played in our last international game last autumn in malta .

I am not sure but probably he has some games for Fenerbahce in the CL in the season 2003-04 . Don't remmember how he made it then ...

Bulgarian left back Ivaylo Petkov expects to seal a move to SPL champions Celtic early next week.
The 30-year-old stopper is available on a free transfer after his deal with Turkish outfit Ankaragucu finished this summer.
Bhoys manager Gordon Strachan is looking to strengthen his backline after his move for Michal Kadlec failed to bear fruit.
The Scot has now turned to Petkov, who expects to travel to Scotland in the imminent future to thrash out personal terms.
"Celtic want me and I want to go there," explained Petkov. "I believe a deal with be done in a couple of days.
"My agent is doing his job and he's already spoken to Strachan and Peter Lawwell (chief executive). "I think I will travel to Scotland maybe after Celtic's match with Yokohama to speak to the club."
