    so another setback for us

    • Wigan make him priority as their next manager
    • Swansea want a reported £3million in compensation

No way will the board stump up that money to bring him in and he would never turn down the premiership

and so the manager hunt continues...

who from celtic has said we are interested?

IMO the guy would be a * eejit to turn down celtic for Wigan, but its pure speculation and possibly a bit of manouvering from the swansea manager to raise the profile/worth of his man.

Agreed with cash, we're being led to believe we're on a managerial goosechase which we can only assume is nonsense until we're told otherwise by Celtic.

he has 4 years on his contract, the fact he missed out on playoffs by one goal to net them a possible £50m makes sense that they would want £3m in compensation. I don't think it's an inflated price either.. supposedly Sunderland are paying £5m to Wigan for Steve Bruce.

If the board don't wanna pay it.. fine.. but it's still a show of penny pinching however you look at it.

3 Million compensation for Martinez is not worth it, I'm constantly on the boards back but this is not penny pinching its common sense IMO. Let Wigan pay 3 million. Theres very few managers that deserve that on our budget and most of them are out of our league.

oh yea, how the * did I get that messed up.. :31:

I'm not saying he's worth £3m, I'm saying our board have gone for someone and once again knocked it on the head when a price was put in front of them. Just like with yon Romanian defender.

Celtic have staged a last-ditch attempt to prevent Roberto Martinez from falling into the clutches of Premiership Wigan. Despite 11th-hour efforts to sway the highly-rated Spaniard, Sportsmail understands Martinez is '90- per-cent certain' to stay in English football with Wigan.
JJB chairman Dave Whelan asked Swansea for permission to speak with their manager yesterday but failed with an opening offer of compensation. With £3million available after the loss of Steve Bruce to Sunderland, however, Wigan will up their offer when negotiations recommence.

In response to the Wigan interest, bookmakers reinstated West Brom's Tony Mowbray as hot favourite for the Celtic post.
Sky Sports reported that Celtic were set to meet the Englishman in the capital on Wednesday.
West Brom insist, however, that no meeting took place and, with chairman Jeremy Peace on holiday in the Caribbean, the Hawthorns club reiterated their stance that there had been no 'official' contact with Celtic.
Mowbray is currently awaiting the birth of his third child, all of which could delay the process of a Parkhead appointment further.
A second bid for Burnley's Owen Coyle - yet to sign a new contract - cannot be ruled out, but the chances of Martinez returning to Scotland have dimmed significantly.
'Wigan asked for permission to speak to Roberto,' reported Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins. 'They asked what compensation we'd be looking for and we talked about different figures.
'I told them what I valued Roberto at and they told me what they thought - and we were miles apart, to say the least. I have not given them permission to speak to Roberto.'
Wigan were also linked with Peterborough's Darren Ferguson, but Posh director of football Barry Fry insisted: 'I'm close to Steve Bruce and he tells me Martinez is going to Wigan - and I believe Steve Bruce.'
