isnt our colours green and white?

this new strip.....best thing I can say about it is its ...crap...but worse still ..isnt it pandering to sectarianism?...arnt we becoming a little too irish?....hey my granny was from county meath....but my father was scottish ..so was my mother...im not forgetting the spirit or the reasons why celtic was formed...but arnt we a scottish club? ..playing in glasgow? in the scottish premier league?...with a scottish manager?..and the lisbon lions were scottish mostly...cant we somehow get a little bit of scotland on our strips?
fact is the celts were never in ireland (check yer anthropology)..we cant slag rangers for wearing orange strips then bring out this away strip....now I know a lot of you wont like this post but ...our colours are green and white...and i feel too much of our attention is paid to our irishness and not enough to our scottishness...

I think you're reading too much into this mate, I don't see this as flaunting Irishness or anything.... I see this as a football kit. Who knows why they chose a yellow stripe. And who cares?

Lets get something straight. Green, white and Orange (or Gold) is not sectarian. Ireland or Irishness is not sectarian. So where the * in Gods name do you pull sectarian issues from using the green and orange colours???

Please don't waste our time with this utter tripe. As a side note, I'm over enthused with the new strip.

"most sectarians are intolerant of the views of any other sect"

How in the * is using certain colours even anything near sectarian????

 

And another thing. What has our away strip got to do with our normal colours? An away strip usually means something different to your home colours so there's no clashes with the colours of the opposition.

Remember the Bumble Bee strip? The Black strip? The gold away strip?

 

Well said. You absolutely hit the nail on the head.
The bottom line is away strips for the vast majority of clubs constantly change. I have a load of Celtic away strips even some of the obnoxious ones like the old bumble bee strip. They are all sorts of designs and colours. This is the fourth away strip Nike have made for Celtic and they all have been different. The bottom line is money. Nike are trying to come up with away strips they think will sell well and make them money. They will never make a Celtic away kit that is all blue or all orange for obvious reasons because it won't make them any money. So they go with kit designs and colours that will make them money. Personally I cannot stand Nike as they are not a company that gives a * about soccer but they have given Celtic a pretty decent sized sponsorship deal to make our kits and certainly are entitled to make their money.

 

maybe we should make our shirts orange then i'm sure all the huns will accept us.

eire4 - spot on about Nike. They have a bad rep about using slave labour but they are there to make money. If money wasn't to be made out of the Celtic deal, they wouldn't be involved. It make's sense for them to use the green/orange/yellow colours to generate more sales.

suttonstheman - I understand your thoughts about the Scottishness of Celtic not being used enough. Personally I wouldn't mind if more Scottishness was brought into the strip design. After all the club is based in Scotland and there are thousands of Scottish fans.

a wee scottish flag on the back of the neck would be good ...and thanks liam for meeting me half way on this ....ive asked a lot of older fans and they agree that there should be a balance ....acknowledge our roots ..but acknowledge the fact we are a scottish club....sometimes it gets lost

That is a good point, I mean i dont have to explain the history of our club, but true we do play in Scotland and have many many scottish fans and i think we need to embrace as we do our Irishness all over the globe.....i still like the new kit though


@ liam thaks! Feel free to use it if ya want. a guy in another forum makes um so i have get ya (or anyone else) one that cycles though whatever tops you want, international any leagues home away etc.

 

we play in scotland because we are a scottish club therefore the majority of our fans are scottish or have scottish links
also our irish links shall never be forgotten thanx to our beloved brother wilfred
however we are and always will be a scottish football team with irish connections

No need to thank me suttonstheman as you make a valid point in that the Scottishness should not be lost on our identity as this is what makes Celtic great! We truly are a great mix of a similar but different culture. I was just referring to the sectarian thing as many gers etc will say The Fields of Athenry is secterian etc when it is clearly not.

I wouldn't mind if there was a Scottish flag used on the kit at all - it hurts no one but shows what Celtic is.

 

The Green, white and yellow is in reference to 19th century Ireland, Walfrid's era. Shall we ignore that? Check any history book, the Celts arrived in Ireland in the 2nd century B.C.

 

yellow has never been included in any celtic official team colours[ the same as the black top a couple of years ago] so what is your point caller
please do not read more into something which is merely a marketing ploy by nike to sell more merchandise by creating a top they feel will appeal to the celtic masses

Its a jersey, its theme is to the history and the founder of the club, its an original theme, if you can understand that concept

 

it is a money making scheme nothing more nothing less
these companies have no allegiances to a clubs history they want to make as much cash as they can !!!
so you you can take your concept and smoke it
if history is your thing then the next home top shall not be the hoops by your reckoning
