    Stokes - Terrible.

Lots of people wont like this, but anthony stokes was absolutely rotten tonight. Did nothing at all for us, apart from moan everytime he got beatin to the header by some old guy at the back for motherwell.

This is the difference between having a striker like hooper up front and stokes, stokes needs someone good beside him in order for him to get into the game, hooper doesnt.

If stokes is our only target up front come sunday, we`r beat already.

We need more from our strikers!! Regardless of who is injured and who isnt, every single game you should play your heart out for the jersey, tonight, i just didnt see it from stokes.

    Hail Hail

No way was he rotten tonight mate. The motherwell back four were solid tonight, Stokes won us around three corners tonight, one of which led to the goal im sure.

    I disagree.

Stokes ran his socks off all night, never gave the defence or goalkeeper time on the ball when he had the chance to press.

I think the problem was the lack of service he received, as you pointed out he was constantly moaning, this was the reason why. He was feeding off scraps all night and the wide men barely created an opportunity for him, neither did any of the central midfielder.

Time and time again when Paddy cut in from the left, Stokes was waiting wide open in the box but he was too greedy. That is not a dig at Paddy, just giving an example of how one player had many opportunities to set-up a deadly finisher.

He struggled in the air slightly but he's not renowned for his aerially threat, whenever he got the ball played into his feet, I though he held up the play well and I can't recall him giving the ball away once.

Biggest problem was our lack of decent service, despite dominating possession again - not creating enough when dominating has cost us points in the past and could have done again tonight if Motherwell offered more going forward.

He ran hard for 90 minutes and won us some corners but don't think he's suited to playing on his own up front.

He's definately not terrible, and he's better than Murphy and Samaras.

Wasn't at his beat but that might be because he has a long ball been constantly punted at him and has to constantly come deep to get the ball since he was getting no service

I thought he played well actually.

Definite starter at Ipox where he will add to his goal of the season from last year :icon_mrgreen:

How many shots on goal did stokes get tonight?

The guy gets paid to score goals. Obviously you cant score in every game.

If stokes plays the same on sunday as he did tonight, without having a shot on goal, nevermind setting up any chances, i`d rather put someone else in his place who will play with a bit more dig.

Sorry guys, just my opinion, hope he has a blinder on sunday, but on tonights performance, it isnt looking hopeful.

Because of our current injury situation, Stokes is being asked to do a role not suited to him, he has been asked to hold the ball up and bring others into play, we all know Stokes is a poacher who needs a striker upfront to supply him, tonight for the majority he was up there by himself and had only long aimless balls to go off despite the fact he is only about 5'11?

Completely agree with Tab he pressed the defenders all night and never stopped working for the team.

I have absolutely no problem with Stokes tonight.

I don't see what he can do when the ball is booted up to him and there is noone around to receive the knock on. Even if he did win the ball, there was nothing he could do. Yet the ball was booted up to him time and time again....

His workrate is brilliant, thats what we need on midweek nights against a kicking the * out of Celtic tactic playing team - aided & abetted by a compliant Ref.

He didn't have the best of service or opportunities, but he's not a shitebag & that's a start for this team.

The less shitebags the better - Stokes will come good.

    Murphy & Samaras won't

Stokes was poor - Link up play shocking, movement shocking, work rate and team effort top class, but we need more than that. He cannot play as a one man striker. He needs a somebody playing close to him like Kapo was doing.

Big difference between hooper and stokes in quality

Stokesy is going through a barren run in front of goal at the min, worked hard tonigt but we continually played high balls up to him, when that clearly is'nt his game. Any good strikers confiedence is made or broken by the number of goals they are banging in, Stokesy is no different, he just needs a goal right now to get him up and going again. Bring on the Huns!!!

Yup we should get rid of him, after all we do have Murphy and Samaras to bang the in eh?

Give the guy a good run with Hooper when he's fit and I'm sure he'll be banging in the goals.

Where was the service? Oh that's right there wasn't any. He couldn't do much with a long ball game could he.
There was some pish performances tonight but Stokes isn't desrving of that title tonight.
