Seeing the Varga thread, most people don't think he's a legend which I agree with. What's everyone thoughts on Chris Sutton though? Personally I think he's a legend, don't think Larsson would have scored as many goals without big Chris:icon_mrgreen:

Icon rather than Legend if that makes sense.

IMO our 21st century legends are Tom Boyd, Henrik Larsson, Neil Lennon and Artur Boruc.

However, I suppose all of the 2002/03 squad deserve legendary status in one form or another, despite winning nothing that year.

    That's a hard one.

Not in the same way as Larsson, Stein, McNeill, Burns, Jinky etc..

But yes, I would like to think so.

Looking at that goodbye Chris Sutton video, really makes me think we need a big target man like Sutton was up front, especially for europe

I like the fact that he brought backing into defenders to draw fowels into the scottish game, thats always something that sticks in my mind and for that, hes a legend to me :)

How can anybody say Bourc is a legend and Sutton is not ? For me Sutton is a legend possibly the best target man we have ever had at the club and always ahd time for the fans. As already metioned Henrik would not have scored the amount of goals he did without Suttin alongside him.

He was always my favorite player during the MON era.

Is is true that Sutton has more CL goals under Celtic than Larsson does?

Never seen a player much such an positive impact as he did against Barca when he came on.

Could play CB or CF, regardless, he would put in a helluva shift. His goald against Juve was special too :)

    Without question he is.

Ruthless, robust, versatile, consistent, hunskelper, seemed to take the club to his heart and struck up the finest partnership up front that I ever have, and probably ever will see in the hoops, with the King of Kings.

63 goals in 130 games is an impressive return. Particularly when you consider how many of those goals were crucial/in important matches. (Ajax, Blackburn, Juve, Huns - many a time). And with minimum fuss he even played at centre back, and a sort of attacking midfielder when asked. His performance at the back at the Bigotdrome (1-0, Hartson) was fantastic. He never gave them a sniff.

As someone posted earlier, it would be great to have someone like him in our current side to hold the ball up with the same ease and conviction as he did. So often it was as simple as getting the ball up to him, him releasing it wide to one of our wingers and either big John, the King, or Sutty himself tapping it home.

It's a shame that he left the club under the circumstances he did ... much like many of O'Neill's signings under Strachan, but, other than O'Neill's last season, he gave us four fantastic seasons.

He was my first real favourite player. Can you tell? :celt_2:
