Are these 'shock' away defeats in Europe simply part of club's nature??

    Deila

    Legia 4-1 13/14

    Lennon

    Karagandy 2-0 12/13
    Sion 3-1 11/12
    Utrecht 4-0 10/11

    Mowbray....
    ...
    ...
    :smiley-laughing002:

    Strachan

    Aalborg 2-1 08/09
    Copenhagen 3-1 06/07
    Bratislava 5-0 05/06

    O'Neill

    Teplice 1-0 03/04
    Anderlecht 1-0 03/04
    Stuttgart 3-2 02/03
    Basel 2-0 02/03
    Rosenborg 2-0 01/02
    Helsinki 2-1 00/01

That's all the games from my time that I can remember. In each game we capitulated terribly.

    Looking back through history....

Fc Zurich, Dinamo Zagreb, Koln, Xamax, Partizan, Honved, Rapid, Gent, Timisoara, Diosgyori, Tirana, Wacker, Wisla Krakow, Zwickau, Ujpest, Boldklubben.

Can anyone alive back then put these results into context with Legia, Bratislava etc??

And should we expect another hammering in the near future??

We punch above our weight at home and play well below ourselves away from home.

    Full *.

Every team loses away games in Europe, domestically and against lower League domestic teams. Its in all teams DNA.

You forgot Lennon's capitulation @ barca last year but listen these results have always been apart of football every club and I mean every club has suffered those kind of results if and I hope and pray we reverse the score line next week then it was a bad day at the office if not then once more we r playing catch up I wish to ghod I had the answer as I wouldn't put myself through this year after year (early 60s and early 90s).

We have no divine right to beat anyone, through any generation when we've been better than we are now..
As a club from a small country we've always done well and at times brilliant..
Freak results happen at any club, some of those names like basle, rosenborg and dynamo were good outfits back then..

Stuttgart we were 2 up and well through before they turned it fully around near the death, anderlecht we no way deserved to.lose out there and teplice we beat comfortably at home.. Was at all three and we were comfortable in all..

Can't think of any team the same size as us who has lost as many games against poor opposition.

It wasn't the four one result on Wednesday night , that shocked me but the manner of it . For maybe the first time ever when Celtic were behind by three goals I was hoping that the referee would blow for time . It will take a Lazarus like surprise for Celtic to over come Legia on Wednesday night .

I think we have to differentiate between how big we are and what level we are at currently. A lot of teams at our level lose heavily away from home and can play above themselves at home. Remember Ruban Kazan from a few years ago, stunned Barcelona (at the Nou Camp) and still lost to opposition of much less quality than Barcelona.

If this was the 60's, 70's when we were still getting to European finals and semi-finals and we lost away from home as much as we did then you'd be really surprised and questions would have to be asked. In our current predicament I think you have to accept these things can happen.

Also remember there were those who thought our squad was good enough to finish 7th in the Bundesliga..... :56: Not a * hope. 17th is more realistic.

To be fair I think part of a lot of the bad away defeats in the last decade have some timing issues based on where we are at in our season with these games coming so early. That combined with the fact that we simply have fallen further and further behind financially that we are now on a par player quality wise with many clubs that once we were way ahead of.

I can't disagree with that at all you've Basicly summed it up can't remember a better campaign against less oposition than when we beat Helsinki etc

Mad to think teams like braga and Utrecht are just nothing after beating us taking out a season or so later braga done not too bad in Europe but where are they now * nowhere

I meant to say in my last post referring to the early 90s I remember we lost to cologne away then beat them at home we all thought that we would go on a run even though it was only the uefa cup then borrusia came to town in the next round and played us off the park whoa the start of the downward spiral till 98.Sometimes you have to go through all this over and over again to test your resolve as a Celtic fan that doesn't mean we have to accept the pish the board put out on the park.

If they played in the splfplf and not the epl then there would be plenty.

We often * up when we're the favourites, but normally do really well and overachieve as underdogs.

I suppose we have to take the highs and the lows, on the one hand we get to beat Barca every few years, but we also get beat by teams far weaker and smaller than us quite often.
