Caldwell might well be happy to sign for Newcastle but he won't be half as happy as i am to see him go. A total liability.

:bbpd: bye bye caldwell; i cant help but notice our form started dipping after he came out before the Tel Aviv game demanding a new contract; totally unsettled the team and the support imo

as far as im concerned he shouldnt be in our first 11 never mind * captain and the sooner he goes the better

no, i'm not blaming heid for EVERYTHING but ever since then heid hasnt improved and the team just seemed to dip after that, not least that awful 2nd half

i said at the time that heid had picked the worse possible moment to ask for a new contract and i stand by that.

of course, its not caldwells fault we are not scoring though he has been culbaple for a string of goals this season (others as well mind!) and i think the best thing for celtic is that he leaves asap

Spot on mate. I would keep him. He is a great Football player, who we should be looking to keep.

At any football club, the Captain and Vice-captain should be the 2 highest payed players at whichever club they are at.

As i have said in another thread, McGeady has done nothing since winning POTY, but I think i'm the only one who wants him out.

Most people want McManus and Caldwell out and want O'Dea back.......This is a player who's current team are battling relegation, and have had their best 2 results this season when he hasn't been playing, so why do they want him back.

If they do get dropped and Thompson and O'Dea play and we continue to lose goals at set pieces or from sloppy defending, will everyone come on wanting those two sold????? Or will it just be unfortunate that the opposition scored against them???

THe thing is even if it says very little, Caldwell is out best CB. We should not be selling our best. We should be selling our worst, IMO that is Mick. Caldwell is a sweeper style player and its been obvious to me for years that the problem has been that he hasnt been paired with an opposite sort of player - a huge tough stopper about 6ft 5 who cant be beaten in the air. That would have been a great blend. I also sometimes think how good Caldwell would have been as the middle CB/sweeper in a back 3 of the sort MON used until Seville.

Oh aye and agree about O'Dea. Fans love him and never see or remember his mistakes. IMO he is never ever a CB. He just does not have that sort of dominance.

I'm really very disappointed. Caldwell really had made me eat my words - after a very poor first (or 1.5) seasons, he bounced back and played really well. Back then he was the best defender in the spl.
on the other hand this season he has been disgraceful so far and yet is still demanding more money.

I also blame the club, our board for the current mess. to me it seems as there is some lack of professionalism on both sides however. Running to the media before a crucial game and demanding more money is not only letting your teammates down, it's also a huge sign of disrespect.

I heard some stories (if they are true is another question) about Caldwell and he really comes across as a jackass and is unsettling the dressing room.

to cut a long story short: he has had some very poor and also very great months, games, times. but he seems to be up his own * so bad that he can't differ between reality and fantasy.

in the longterm we will be better off without him.

Can't disagree with any of that, he's had good bad and indifferent games for us and his time is up.

He may have been our best defender last season, but I'm interested in this season, and he's been poor all season long and very unprofessional, although the board are partly to blame for this whole situation Caldwell handled it totally wrong and it's time for him to go.

    No they shouldn't.

You could have an absolutely brilliant player who is just not captain or vice-captain material.

With no disrespect at all to Paul Lambert, when Paul Lambert was captain of Celtic should he have been paid more than Henrik Larsson? No chance. Larsson was far more important to Celtic and deserved to be paid more.

Great football player ? You are surely at it buddy! Not a chance he is a great footballer. He is mediocre and is a liability. He had a good season and a half but for the rest of his time here he has been a liability and he is not good enough.

McGeady has done nothing ? He has certainly done more for Celtic than the clown you seem intent on keeping and making highest paid :)97: lunacy). McGeady carries Celtic at times on the pitch and there is a lot of pressure on him. On his day, he is an excellent player.

O'Dea is better than Mick and Caldwell. I have no doubt about that.

After last season he should have been concentrating on cementing his place as our number one CB and possibly captain but he was more worried about money and it has affected his performances, Newcastle can have him.
