It would seem that we are possibly going to lose out to Genk for the signing of the polish keeper.

with the powerbrokers constantly telling us in recent years that we have the best run club in europe why cant we compete at in or around the £2 million pound mark......surely that amount is still within our budget.

Why go in for a player you know the clubs valuation of and then not meet it, stupid and embarrassing like the fiasco rangers had with goodwillie and most of their targets.

I don't think we've been lied to - I just think this has been a massive case of people getting way over-hyped on a player and thinking that we're defo going to sign him up. Lenny's made it no secret that he wants a keeper, but no one ever said this bhoy was THE one. People got the same way about Wanyama, started including him in their first team line up before they'd ever seen him play. Quite funny to see all that hype, and definitely gives the player(s) a lot of room to not meet expectations.

2 million is an awful lot of money to us, it is a lot to spend on a 21 year old.

thats my feeling exactly.....if we're not going with lucas...surely we should have been chasing an experienced goalie...not a great prospect. and especially at 2 mill.

No but it makes the club on a whole look silly.

We had a very decent keeper that we could have had for nothing(pletikosa), now after Lenny publicly saying Gregor is 1 he's very interested in and one for the future looks like signing for Genk and Newcastle already knocked back a bid from us and saying he's not for sale(forster) we've now gone back in for him and for a fee that will possibly be more than £2m is strange considering the club new they had to sign a gk this summer.

Also that Mphela stated that he felt wasn't treated the best when he was here either.

Who ever it is that makes these decisions whether its Lenny, Lawell or the board it makes the club and its fans look pretty stupid in my opinion.

If you think it's Lenny handling the books, the amount of money bid, etc, then you're absolutely off your rocker. Lenny is the manager, not a shareholder or Peter Lawell. Your anger is poorly directed in this case mate.

    well said pal :50:

lets not jump to the panic stations just yet - the club will acquire a goalkeeper but they will only pay what they believe he is worth. if they think this sandomierski is worth the cash they will pay it, if not they wont, its as simple as that. i know its frustrating we dont have a GK sorted out yet but it will be sorted by the end of the window im confident enough of that. also lets not forget the holy goalie number 2 is yet to concede a goal in our first 2 league games.

    in lennon we trust :shamrock::shamrock:

its called negotiating mate. clubs never jump straight in with another clubs valuatation of a player - thats called showing your hand to early.

you are deluded if you think we dont have 2 million pounds to spend on a player who we rate

Of course we haven't been lied to. The club is very well run, we exist within our means and we have spent very well in recent seasons. It is clear that our spending depends heavily on European participation which we haven't had recently. We don't have much money to spend and are having to be very cautious about our dealings. I wouldn't have it any other way. If we qualify for the champions league next season, things should improve again.

Because that sort of thing is standard practice when you are negotiating to buy a football player.

You don't just steam in with your wallet waving and give the club what they want for the player straight away. You start off by asking them what they value the player at and then you put in a lower bid. If the club refuses that bid then you get round the table and start negotiating until you agree on a figure that is agreeable to both parties.

It's called making a cheapskate of yourself.

You will get used to it.

    Happens every transfer window.

would you and selbybhoy rather we just paid every clubs valuation of their players and leave ourselves short?

or would you prefer we got who we want for the best possible price?

i know which of those two options id prefer for the greater good of Celtic Football Club

That's the phenomenal tactic Rangers used when trying to sign Goodwillie. Look how successful they were.

I never criticise the board but I am starting to get seriously annoyed at this embarrassing situation. We desperately need a keeper and we are being * about yet again. If we use the Craig Whyte method, the boy will be playing in Belgium this time next week. Pay the money ffs.

seems our season ticket money is going to good use this year 2 free agents signed in January and a 1.5 million midfielder that sits warming the bench. If this is all we bring in im considering cancleing my book, I love the club but not loveing what is being done with my (our) money.

A said it weeks ago and a will say it again we probly wont sign any * else, 800 grand if it even was as much as that is all we will spend, the wool has totaly been pulled over every one of our eyes, talk of bellamy, lol load of pish season book filler signing, talk of given and other big names linked with us?????

All bull *, we were never in the running to sign bellamy, a dont know who lenny thought he was kidding when he said a deal might be struck??? certainly fooled a lot on here going by the 60 odd thousand views on the thread about him.................

Another thing * all has been spent out the mcgeady transfer fund we recieved for him??? nothing mentioned either?? am * discusted as too why celtic cant build on the foundations of last year, ie a decent centre back to play with k. wilson/ who looks the part by the way, thee rest are not good enough and will clearly get found out in europe>> FACT

Why have we not signed another striker yet???? a\ target man would be a bounus, sammaras slows down play and is good enough to * up league titles, yet scores less than a would score if a was in a celtic shirt and am 12 stone, seriously his finishing is got to be the worst av seen in a celtic shirt.

Then theres murphy who the ball just bounces off, dont know why lenny paid 1.5 million for him, scouts must have got that 1 all wrong probly better off with timmy murphy up front.

No goal keeper signed yet?????? A pure joke imo because this is what we need most imo.

A wish celtic would get the finger out and make signings but really cant see it to be honest, can see it been another one of , we tried but nothing materailised, etc etc

Wish the billionaires would get the wallets out and * bury these huns, something which we should have been doing for the last 3 years and have failed miserably:38:
