We already have a heavy metal thread. But I'm just wondering if any of you guys are into hardcore-punk.

First when I got in touch with this music was way back when I was a kid, when a friend of mine gave me a mix tape of metal bands. One of the bands on this tape was a band called D.R.I. with the song "I Don't Need Soceity". I was absolutely in shock when I heard this band. The band playing at about 200 miles an hour and the singer even topping that coming in at a speed of 400 miles an hour.
Not really knowing what hardcore-punk was at that time, I just kept on thinking it was a metal band on really high speed.

A few years later my eyes were opened by a classmate of mine, taping me (tape trading was really big back then) all the bands in his collection. And on the sticker he had written the words "Hardcore compilation". On this tape there were bands like Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All, Black Flag, Cro-Mags, Slapshot and there it was...D.R.I.! What a great tape it was and played it again and again.
Next day at school asking the guy what hardcore meant, he explained me it started around 79 as an American answer to english punk (I know Ramones were even before 1976/77) only faster, "better" played and a 1000 times more agressive. From that time I was hooked and learning about new bands every day and learning that bands like Slayer, Napalm Death, Anthrax were all inspired by hardcore music from the 80's. Bands like Rage Agains The Machine, Beastie Boys even and Red Hot Chilli Peppers wouldnt be around if it wasn't for hardore music. *, even Moby was doing hardcore before his dance stuff! :56:

Favorite bands old and new nowadays are:

    Subzero
    Black Flag
    D.R.I.
    Slapshot
    Leeway
    Death Threat
    Cro-Mags
    Warzone
    Fear
    Maximum Penalty
    Underdog
    Sheer Terror
    Black Train Jack
    H2o
    "older" Madball
    Inhuman
    Dag Nasty
    Cirkle Jerks

Can't really handle * new emo-core, crabcore, mathcore what in my opinion has nothing to do with hardcore. But hey, to each their own. :50:

So I hope this story is'nt too long and makes a bit of sense, but my question is:Is anyone else into this music? Hope I did'nt type this * for nothing. :icon_mrgreen:

To finish of this retarded thread here's some videos.

    Thank you and take care.

I like punk music, but I guess nothing quite like your type of thing. I much prefer something like NOFX or Propaghandi.

I was into Punk music quite heavy a few years ago (now much more into Metal, nae Metalcore * though). Listened to every style from the slightly poppy stuff like NoFX, to the Ska-Punk like Rancid and Suicide Machines, to the sorta Country Punk of Social Distortion. I wasn't huge on hXc Punk to be honest but I suppose I went through phases of liking it.

Minor Threat, The Exploited and Black Flag were stand-outs for me, but overall, not huge on it, but can definately see it's influence.

Bad Brains have some amazing songs and some very * songs as well. Not really into their reaggea stuff. H.R. is quite a character though. :50:

You ever read the book "Get in the van" by Henry Rollins? It's about his time with Black Flag. Great stories and even more amazing pictures.

This song makes me happy every time I hear it. Bob Ross would say...a happy little hardcore song.:50: 2 Versions of the video. The second one is a fan made zombie clip on their song "wake the dead" and it's quite funny.

I've looked through the book at the pics. My boyfriend 14 years ago loved that book and was one of his inspirations for really getting into the music scene.

Punk is what I grew up with and still listen to, in all it's guises. Was even in a couple of punk bands, lol. Though as this thread is about hardcore, amazed no one has mentioned the Misfits - no not that poxy TV show... Glenn Danzig & co, lol).

Punk, and hardcore punk, has had a huge impact on my music taste today.

The Exploited and Minor Threat were some of the first bands that I really got into.

Nowadays I listen to stuff like Rancid, Mad Caddies, Dead Kennedy's, and Anti Flag. Not hardcore punk but they are all hugely influenced by the genre.

:icon_mrgreen: Thats always a problem with naming bands. I can list a ton of them and there are a shitload I really like, so what names are you going to list and what are you gonna keep out. I like some songs by the Misfits, but to be honest don't know that many of them.

I play guitar in a band that I can't really put down to one genre. Some people call it punk/hardcore but others call it screamo * lol. Each to their own.

Saw this band live a few years back, whilst they're not really my cup of tea it was some gig as you can probably imagine.

Not really into the metal riffs in my hardcore. Ok some i do like (Merauder/Born From Pain, older Hatebreed etc.), but to me this is just metal with a hardcore attitude.
