But then your blood does flow to the area needing it most, in these cases, the muscles you are working

Definitely not 'part and parcel' for me. I've never heard of it!

it possible to consume protein (if it's of the unflavoured variety) in diluted juice drink?
    Like apple juice??

Make up your juice in your shaker then drop in the powder and shake. That work?

    Yeah , I do that..

You can pretty much blend anything together.. The only thing is when you make a days worth (2 litres) and you plan to do it so you have some morning/afternoon/evening , the stuff that's left sitting in the blender will seperate after a while if there's lots of juice compared to yoghurt/fruit.. The juice tends to sit at the bottom the yoghurt above that and the powder can get lumpy and rise to the top.. ( I might have that the wrong way round) Only needs a couple minutes blending before it's decent again but I always put it through a sieve anyway because after sitting for a while it gets lumpy..

Sometimes I make a shake with cranberry juice , Strawberry milk/yoghurt and add raspberries.. It's quite a nice berry flavour like that , but see if I were to add just a couple of bananas , the bananas will be all that I can taste..

On the other hand , if the shake isn't particualrly nice on it's own , like the sickly taste you get from just water/powder.. Throw in a couple of bananas and it will at least give you something pleasant to drink..

Aye it's just because I've started making it with Water. It's hard to drink with water. I buy Banana flavoured powder, but next time, it's unflavoured variety and I will mix it with flavoured juice and drink straight away.

I don't have a blender or anything, otherwise I would do that, I'd go and mix it with fruit and other stuff for sure.

Without a blender , there's probably a right and wrong way to make a shake,... Im not sure if you should put the powder in your shaker and then add the liquid or have the liquid in there and add the powder , but either way I can only see it being lumpy..
Would definately invest in a blender if you can afford it..

No I know how to. I tried it both ways you say there and find that liquid first followed by shaking it up/down and towards/away from you does the trick.

Theyre not bad at all actually. I can't say I've had many lumps.

    Let the people sing,
What the best way to start working out, outwith a gym?
Im 18 and built like a twig; got alot of dumbells, barbells etc but just don't know the best way to start. Also, for those who don't work out at the gym how do you get in a good routine as i always forget and stuff. How often should you be weightlifting in a normal week? And are the shakes like Creatine really necessary?

    love a good walk on
i was 17 when i started to do weights, just turned 18 when i started to take it seriously and that was about 4-5 months ago. until then i was quite a slim build, perhaps quite like yourself.

if youve got dumbells or even a barbell at home then you could use them quite easily to get yourself started before going to a gym when they become too easy. just use google or youtube to find enough exercises for each muscle group and learn about basic weightlifting. high weight and low reps = muscle building. high reps low weight = muscle endurance and tone. its good to experiment at the start, find what exercises work for you and what dont work so well.

another good way to build up overall body strength is to take up certain sports. for example swimming or going on a rowing machine are a great workout, especially swimming. swimming uses pretty much every major muscle you have and its a good cardio workout too, so even just two swims a week and youl notice a difference by the end of the month in terms of swimming speed and how you feel after it etc.

if you do start using weights, then make sure you take rest days. work say 2 muscle groups (e.g. back, chest etc) on a workout day, once youve been through all the muscle groups, take a day off. then just repeat the cycle.

are the shakes necessary no. the level of protein you need to build muscle is easily achievable from your diet. i dont use them at all, but i make sure i have decent protein intake every day from my food. people use them because they are an easy source of protein and its next to no hastle, just mixing some powder with liquid compared to thinking more about your diet.

but fitness is gained more in the kitchen than in the gym.

if you want bigger muscle mass, work out simply what the most you can physically lift is within 5 reps then reduce the weight so you can just about do 15-20 quick lift reps but inbetween quick lift bring the weight down really slowly (it's almost alot harder to do that then lift it after a while), take a 30 second break, repeat on different muscle group, rest for 30 seconds, repeat but add an extra 5 reps while reducing the weight.

also like it's been mentioned in a sense the exercise is only as good as your diet.

at the end just to help the muscle growth and the rebuilding process eat high protein foods or you could even just drink good old milk.

For losing weight, is it better to do interval training over a shorter period of time? Or long 5km+ runs?

Need to shift half a stone.

Also, is it worth getting an ab belt toner? I'm dubious as to their benefits.

From personal experience I would say training over period of time. Don't think distance thime if you can run for over 30 minutes you will lose weight easily.
