Just wondering if anyone has been to Gdansk before and if they recommend anything worthwhile doing? I've booked up in December for a few days. Also wondering how easy it will be to get a ticket for a lechia Gdansk match as they are at home when I'm over. Maybe one of the polish members could shed a bit of light on this.

I go to Gdansk few times a year, just got married there last month. lovely place and recommend to anyone, not sure what you looking to do over there? Chill out...party.....If just going for a few days, wander and take in the place, great time of year to be going with chrimbo decorations in the main square but winters are bad over there at times so just your luck i suppose. Taking a trip through to sopot is nice also.

Football wise for Lechia Gdansk it will be at the Ergo Arena, easy to reach by train, tram or taxi, i use local taxis as they are really cheap compared to over here anyway. To get a ticket for the football we went to one of the big shoppings centres (Galeria it called i think) and there was a lechia stall there where we signed up and recieved a membership card and bought tickets for the game.

Get there early and enjoy some vodka at the bar to warm for the game, vendors sell beer also, can buy 4 pints with carrier and take to your seat.

If you want more specific info give me a shout, my wife Lucy is from Gdansk and can advise better.

Sorry, stadion Energa Arena formerly the PGE Arena is where lechia play football, not the ergo arena :50:

More info on ticket outlets etc here, need photo id with you.

Thanks for the info mate just looking to chill do a bit of sightseeing, dinner and drinks probably too, any recommendations for restaurants or bars? Thanks for the info on tickets, I messaged the club on Facebook and luckily they responded and gave me a lot of good information, I've signed upto the website as there Is an English section. Can get internet tickets was a bit confused with the identifier number but don't think it's mandatory, we arrive around 12 on the day of the game so just plan on dropping case off at apartment and heading straight to the ground so will see about getting tickets online as may not have time for the mall. Also congrats on your marriage

    Cheers on the congrats :50:

Ok restaurant Gdansk, cant fault most places and you will see there is plenty to choose from...

Always found this one to be good, nice setting down by the river and decent prices, try the zurek soup that comes in a bread bowl, eat the bowl with the soup as you make way down, not to everyones taste so order 1 zurek soup to see if you both like, with the baked bread bowl i find it :35:

Sphinx restaurant is on the main square in Gdansk, beutiful area to sit and chill out, kind of a polish witherspoons chain, but better quality food and cheap as!

Recomment a day/evening in sopot, plenty bars and nightclubs and is more livlier than gdans, go here for excellent food and chill out under the heaters outside, they put out blankets over the seats to keep the missus warm also, cheap enough for food and drink and is the oldes pub in sopot

    https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Resta...Sopot_Pomerania_Province_Northern_Poland.html

This place brews their own beer in house and the tasting platter is worth trying, this pub is just down from the blue poodle

    Pubs Gdansk...
Wander and you wont fail to find one, there are vodka shot bars up the side streets from main square for cheap start to night or ending as they open till late, i go to the below just cause it supposed to be a scottish pub, not alot scottish about it but worth popping in and cheap enough

This one of my favourites, just over the river from main square and first street on the right, it has car seats at the tables which are comfy and a novilty and does a mean kamikazi drink, order strawberry, melon, banana kamikazi etc etc, when you order 1 kamikazi you get 4 shot glasees of it. Good coctails also so the wife tells me! Place open until the wee hours and worth a visit

For getting about, some taxis are alot more expensive than others, use AS taxi if can website here but not in english, numbers are on the home page (58 19 660) and 2 other numbers, dont know if need any dialing codes, might be worth checking how to call in poland before you go.

Enjoy your stay, beutiful place and great to chill out. Going there 1st nov myself for 5 days to relax and get drunk!

No probs mate, my family went over for wedding and most were there for first time, they were amazed and loved the place, just go and wander around, you will love it, excursion i recommend if you have time is Malborg Castle, amazing place and history to it and you get access to walk around and see most if not all of it :50:

obafgkmlt & doogsy- just booked myself start of next month £40 return flight from edinburgh. Bargain and accomodation cheap also, get a nice apartment next to the river for 30quid a night. You should definately look into a long weekend to get a feel for the place, and a taste for the beer :60:

Aye, fancy Krakow myself, never been, supposed to be lovely also. Any tips for there? Must see or do? Or is it just a wander and take in the place? :50:

Zakpane in the south looks great also, mountains, log cabins, snow, warm spiced beer.....another to do for me.

The Salt Mines and Auschwitz were excellent days out. We had a great guide at Auschwitz that made it a real experience.

Plenty to do for a long weekend..Krakow was cheap, but Gdansk is supposed to be cheaper still.

The food was excellent and there was quite a few good pubs we stumbled upon.

Nice one :50: Auschwitz is something i want to do, would do it at the end of the trip though, went to a much smaller camp called Stutthof near Gdansk before and put me on a downer seeing what went on there. Think it was the huge pile of insoles from the victims shoes and smell of soot still in the building where they burned the bodies that got to me most. My brother wanted me to go back with him when he came over as he had never been there but i refused.

I was in krakow a couple of years ago was terrific loved the place, there is a few good bars there I was in a pub called bull pub most nights it's just in the main square really. Really good prices and staff are friendly I mind being in there for the shakhtar Karagandy came and the barman put on ynwa after the game and me and a group of German boys were singing it. Was class. I done auschwitz and birkenhau excursion was a real eye opener, would definitely recommend it though it is very educational. Plenty of restaurants and things to cater for most types of food Aswell, id prob try go through the week more if you are looking for a quieter relaxed atmosphere as some weekends can be wild with stag doos.
