What does he stand for exactly that is so bad? His wife is a catholic and his daughter goes to a catholic school unless I am mistaken.

He can clearly not be called a biggot, he is Scottish and proud of this. Apart from the obvious fact he is Rangers daft what is the problem???

Paul Lambert came form a Rangers family and he was loved at Parkhead, add to this the two current ex Rangers players and you get a mixed bag at CP.

Barrys wife is catholic, his daughter is.

He buys two season tickets every year for his dad and wifes brother to come to parkhead every week !!

He simply works hard for his employers.

I spent 6 years in the army, does that make me a loyalist?

Arent we suppose to be fierce rivals where once you play for one side, you shouldnt play for the other out of respect for the rivalry?

hear hear (or is it here here??). There is a difference between being Mr Rangers and Mr Bigot. Barry seems not to be a bigot at all and you cannot hate him for being an old fashioned diehard for his club. Doesnt make you a bigot if its about football and love for a club. He is just their Lenny. Baxter was the same and he spoke out against bigotry (also apparently drank with Jinky).

Many who played for the Old Firm grew up supporting other teams (e.g Kenny and Hibs, list is endless) so are not diehards at all and would not feel that way.

I couldn't care less if he is a bigot, gay or a fascist. He is rangers to the core, used to be their captain, plus a rangers squad player. it's all about football rivalry, you can find it everywhere on the planet. I just don't want rangers players, especially not him (reasons are ahead).

Plus we already have an ex rangers player, and everybody can see what a waste he is :54:

    That wasnt my point.

If you play for one side of the OF, you will then know the history or enough of it that you dont cross over to the other side. Of course there has been exceptions.

    Mo Johnstone - War
Kenny Miller - A mention of it in the paper
    Steven Pressely - Nothing

Has the rivalry died down so much that more players will cross over more regulary without any hostility?

Or was the Mo Johnstone the first real highlight to the world of the sectarianism that existed in Scotland demonstated crystal clear by the Old Firm Clubs?

Ferguson would be different from any of these players before him. He is as they say 'Mr Rangers'. The rangers fans would be spitting blood at him if he crossed the divide. And i'm sure that someone who loves the club as much as him wont be able to cope with the vile that be thrown at him.

I can see him in this meeting today with legless, and pleading that he wants to stay. I can see him staying for the next 6 months and playing in the reserves, staying quiet, trying to show PLG that he can change. Then in the summer PLG will be away and Ferguson will be back in the team.

    Mark my words

  11. It demonstrated the sectarian signing policy of Rangers, Celtic have never discriminated on the basis of religion.

I think it is just that the age of the diehard fan-player is nearly over and most players dont care. The fans know this so only a few players are seen to symbolise a club-usually some fan who got to play for them like Lenny and Barry-and it is only those players crossing the divide that cause big fan hostility. The rest are just seen as mercenaries so fans do not care. Unfortunately for Barry, he is one of the special symbolic players, probably the only one left at Rangers.

Actually, Celtic positively discriminated towards protestants. :84: According to big Jock, if he had too equalish players of opposite denominations in his sites he always signed the protestant one because he knew he could pick up the catholic one later because of Rangers signing policy:50:

Makes you wonder how much of Rangers struggles in the Big Jock era and pre-Souness 1980s was down to this policy. Odd thinking about that bad early-mid 80s Gers team again. A lot of poor players (except Jim Bett and Davie Cooper) and probably the only one worse than today's team.

I think the case is closed now. One thing we have learnt, Barry is bigger than the club rfc :56:

I would never sign him, he is the most over-rated player in britian. He is pish! Le Guen made the right decsion to axe him.

he is a decent player i agree but... he is a true blue in an ian ferguson mccoist mould so i would never want him in my team...thats simple rivalry in a derby way and nothing else especially to do with religion, biggotry etc those things mean nothing to me!
plus in fergusons best interests i.e. his family safty would be a definate issue and will/shouldnt even be considered...but all in all i dont want him we should aim higher!
