Yeah. And he's not being vindictive, as some * will say, after reading the article. He's in good terms with TM, but he states correctly what flaws did he have. Unwillingness to postpone the fancy football.

is certainly the main points from the article that I look at..

It's good to see that Caldwell considers that he may have been a part of our problem because while he goes on about all the first team players who left were also the same ones who dominated Rangers days earlier , they were also the same players who had starring roles in the demise of last season and the first 6 months of TM's doomed era..

Caldwell will take some stick for speaking out but it's really no big deal , he's the one playing in the premiership now so maybe things have worked well for him , but I did notice on their official website from a midweek defeat 10 days ago that the headline was "Caldwell - We''ll take it on the chin"...

As a coach (Lennon), he is
brilliant at motivating. He lets you know what is at stake.

I always wonder why highly paid professionals(?) constantly need to be told stuff like this, to be motivated & to have an arm around their shoulder.

They get far too much money, Heid was never worth what he wanted, he's at Wigan on much more money & continues to score OG's & provide many hole to a leaky sieve like defence. Thomson has done as well as he has in our defence at a fraction of the cost...he's still not scored an OG or been sent off either.

"Now at Wigan Athletic, Caldwell is satisfied with life, but deep down still harbours regrets over his departure from Celtic and the manner in which he was ushered out of the door as soon as Wigan made an acceptable bid."

Well maybe if he took his HEID out his * and didnt ask for so much wages then he might be still playing for Celtic

the article was quite open and forthcoming with honestyhe admitted his part in our downfall so he can now concentrate on ballsing it up for Wigan on his inflated wages. it will forever confuse me how distinctly average players can command huge wages and be able to play football for a living. someone mentioned earlier that we now have a young man doing exactly the same job (giving goals away) on a lot less money with no OG's or red cards (or spouting horse manure in the press about how * marvelous he is)the article should be headed (or heided) Caldwell states the obvious! but at least is wasnt the same as all the other * today which are still firing the boot in

very unfair. He is on three times as much at Wigan as he was on here. He is (despite the fan hatred) still the current POTY club and national captain and most people here when polled rated him and Broony our top players last season when we voted about Aprilish last year. He knew that last summer that was about as high as his stock will ever rise so he had the right to ask to match some of better paid Celtis like Mick who was earning far more than him despite being a poorer player. There is no question that despite the odd gaff Caldwell had been the best Scottish CH and SPL CH of the last couple of seasons. The fact an EPL team wanted him shows he is nowhere near as bad as people are making out. I actually have watched most of his EPL games and he has only had a couple of poor games for Wigan and gets a lot of praise for his leadership etc. He will likely be in the EPL next season. I hate the way Celtic fans turn on a player who has given us years of good service in one of our most successful periods. He was there for 2 of our titles and both of our CL last 16s. People hugely underrate our defence in that period. They cut it at the very top in those years. Caldwell gave his all for us. Just before the best 18 months of his career he had to play for months as a RB which he did without complaining even though some of our thicker fans judged him on his performance as a RB. Everyone in the game rates Caldwell highly which tells me that the core of the dislike is not his standard of play and that fans have magnified his weak points and bad moments out of all proportion and not set them against the may really excellent performances he gave. We have not had a CH who controlled the game and was such a big part of the passing game in 20 years with the exception of Alan Stubbs and IMO I actually believe Mogga when he says he wanted to keep him. I think this was a Lawell thing, as was Bobo and all about money.

Edit-people who think Thompson or O'Dea are of a similar standard are mental cases. For a neutral view look at their status in England - an EPL player compared to a Reading bottom of the championship club reject and a guy who has only played a few games at an even lower level.

Time was right for us as a club to move Caldwell on might not have been how he wanted to go but was definitely imo the right time for Celtic
I thought he was a decent centre half for us but had maybe became complacent in his performances this season as he had no real challenge for his position in the team.

I just hope whoever gets the job permanently next term identifies we need at least two strong commanding centre halfs

    Decent read.

Mowbrays main flaw was that he tried doing too much too fast.

That is the risk he took and it didn't pay off.

The thing that stands out most in that article is where he states that Mowbray failed because he refused to adapt his footballing philosophy. Not the first time he's failed because of that.

I think theyre all upset at the manner they left and had they survived the transfer window they may have been at Celtic for a few more years. Life in Wigan or Boro will be such a comedown.

I did say (& write) at the time that doing so much business in January was fraught with risk. January is a time for tweaking, not massive overhauls, and as a huge gamble it backfired miserably. There certainly seemed to be a genuine lack of joined-up thinking in regards to the extent of player movement, not to mention bringing in 3 loanees on the final day smacked of desperation and panic.
