Elite League Ice Hockey Thread

Thought I'd make a dedicated Elite League Thread instead of posting in the NHL Thread.

Do we have any Flyers, Stars, Capitals, Clan or Giants fans on here?

Was up in Dundee tonight to watch the Fife Flyers @ the Stars. We lost 4 - 2, probably should have been 3 -3 but for some dodgy calls from the referees.

I must say though, the Fife power play is dreadful - we had so many 5 on 4s and even one 5 on 3 and never scored a single PP goal.

On the plus side Fife's resident American Psycho, Matt Nickerson, was back from his 9 game ban for strangling an opponent and punching him on the ground this weekend and it was pretty clear he was dying for a fight. No Dundee player was daft enough to drop their gloves and accept his challene though.

Pretty clear Belfast Giants are going to win the league, some of the hockey they play at times is well above EIHL level

 

Closest glasgow team is braehead, so i guess that is my elite league team

 

Braehead are a pretty decent team, as you can see by the fact their only 4 points off second (Belfast are in a league of their own, their imports are much better than the rest of the league's)

 

Was at the Fife v Cardiff 1/4 Final Second Leg tonight and after losing the first leg 7-3 in Wales, I was expecting a bit of a thumping but a goal in the 30 oddth second helped things. Daly, the Fife goalie - who made some great saves, blundered to allow Cardiff to tie things up and they took the lead a minute or so later with a great long range slapshot to the top corner. We equalised but needing 4 more goals to draw level, we pulled the keeper for the last ten minutes, although still couldn't score, even on a 6 v 4 2 min PP. They scored into the empty net 2 mins from time.

Same as Sundays game, PP is woefully inefficient, even though we did actually score a PP goal for first time in about 4 games. Our defence is decent enough considering we're still pretty new to the league. Our problem is converting the chances we make. We dominated most of the game tonight, and large periods of Sunday's game at Dundee, but lost both.

Youse are running away with the league, deservedly right enough - you play some good hockey which is to be expected considering the imports you have. Spare a thought for poor wee Fife languishing near the bottom. If only you could get league pints for fighting, Nickerson would win us the league single handedly haha

 

Flyers were 4-0 down to Braehead last night in the 2nd. Came back to win 6-4. Still in with chance of the playoffs. Hull @ home tonight.

 

What kind of attendances do fife get and where do they play?

 

Fife play in Kircaldy and their arena is an absolute dump.

I used to go with the Aberdeen junior hockey team up there and the place was *. Hadn't been upgraded or even cleaned in years. Don't know what it's like now.

 

our Barns no bad. Better atmosphere than at Celtic Park these days. Edinburgh's barn, now thats a dump.

Pumped the champions 6-2 the night. That must be a long trip back to Belfast after that.

See the play-offs, does the first seeded team play the bottom seeded team and so on or how does it work?

 

Cardiff not doing Fife any favours again.

Incredible weekend for Fife! Unreal, deserve to get in to the play-offs now. Hopefully you can replace Hull.

 

Got a game in hand over Cardiff and we're only 2pts behind them. 4 points off your mob next weekend should do it like.

 

Well we're already in the play-offs so you definitely have a chance. Seem to have a few injuries as well which isn't helping but we did give it a good go against Belfast so hopefully we can at least put in a decent performance in the home game. If we lose and you get in the play-offs that won't be so bad but if we lose and you don't that'll be pretty crap.

 

If we take our chances like we did against Belfast I think we can get another 4 points. Gonna be close though
