He seems to think we will join the Premier League...

BBC Sport - Football - Old Firm will join the Premier League - Dermot Desmond

I have mixed views on this. In terms of football we would be one of the best in the world within 4-5 seasons, but i feel we would lose a lot playing down south, our identity for one!

I feel that's the only way we will ever have another squad that can compete with the very best, and achieve massive titles.

I think we'd really struggle to finish above tenth even after a few seasons.

i reckon we would struggle at first, we would attract a few biggish names and wed have more funds due to television and everything, but really our away form would be poor. Once settled in we would be up with the best

Think this is Dermot's pipe dream more than anything now ,I dont see the EPL clubs wanting Celtic there ,why would they.

Would move in a heartbeat. I still can't see it happening though.

This particular moment in history will be our greatest opportunity, the economy will recover eventually as will English football. Whilst there will be gaps created down south with clubs going under we should place as much pressure as possible on the powers that be.

We need the EPL...they dont need us.
The huns rampaging through Manchester didnt help. Who would want that mob down every 2 weeks??
Desmond makes a few good points and I agree totally with him in regards to wages, borrowing etc.

Non starter. We're not wanted there and why should they want us there? We would take a lot of money through sky and make harder competition for the lower end of the table.

We are a Scottish club and we must come to terms with that. this will never happen so instead of putting so much effort into a nothing plan we should focus on bettering our own leagues. Our own leagues, albeit too * and probably won't improve much, it's more plausable than playing in the EPL.

    We're on the road again...

It would be great to see Celtic play against big English sides every week, however, I am afraid Celtic would struggle in the league and might even end up in first division. It is a difficult choice, but I do not see it happen anyway.

hardly a fair comparison - do you really think we would be playing the same team now if we had the EPL income.Celtic would, in time, become as big as Man Utd. The amount of people who'd invest in Celtic would be huge - our fanbase would grow, more revenue, more ticket sales (probs increase capacity) more TV income - our team would be so much different from the current one.

Here's even a small suggestion that sort of ties in with this. What about some sort of UK cup tournament? Some sort of amalgamation of FA competitions maybe? Just a suggestion and constructive comments would be appreciated.

Wouldn't just be good news for us would be good news for the economy in a whole ie - travel companys, overnight stays, food places, pubs, the list goes on.

About the fans though if they aint already Celtic supporters and if it takes us playing in a great league to gain new fans then * them Wigan and Blackpool can have them as they are not real fans. We have plenty. I just think Englands scared of having Scottish champions at one point as I think Celtic and Rangers would head upwards and upwards to a point where the big 4 would only be 50% english.

i agree mate - i was meaning fans in America, Asia etc - like Man Utd have in these countries. I don't think we have any right to be in the EPL - we are Scottish after all. EPL teams won't go for it either - turkeys don't vote for christmas.

Cardiff city look candidates for promotion this year and I do believe Cardiff is in Wales so whats the difference if a Scottish team plays in the EPL?
