In total agreement with you. Everybody bases this myth of Croke Park being one of the best stadiums in the world simply because it's so big. Other than that it's pretty basic. I've never really been very impressed by it, yeah the stature is huge but it hasn't got much else going for it.

I wouldn't say it is proper world-class because of the lack of proper stand behind one goal...

But if this stand was developed to the same specifications at the other stand but still had a terrace, I'd say it was genuine world class

Went to see U2 there a few years back great stadium I think if it was all seated it would be one of the greatest stadiums in the world but due to history and tradition this will never happen

Completely disagree with original post. Croke park is a world class stadium.

How many of the world class stadiums you listed have you been to?
The structure, size and facilities are first class.

If you're going to criticise it for atmosphere and compare it to the atmosphere at CP then the obvious reason is that gaelic games doesn't generate as good an atmosphere as football matches, due to things like there doesn't tend to be singing at gaelic games.

Do you honestly think if one of the stadiums you listed was magically transported to ireland and the all ireland final was held there, the atmosphere would be any better? Of course not.

I'm of the opinion the atmosphere at celtic park is better but i still feel big games at croker generate a tremendous atmosphere. the flag waving etc is a sight to behold.

But to say croke park isn't a world class stadium doesn't make sense.

It does look class here, if only that 4th stand where this pic was taken from was developed like the other stands.. it would be IMO, in the top 5 best stadiums in the world...

I know people say the terrace it what makes Croke Park so special, but when the stand was re-developed.. it could still be a terrace...

Iv never been so its hard to comment.

It all depends on what you think is World Class.

Size - looks like a yes
Road layout near stadium - dont know
inside the changing rooms / other rooms - dont know

it's hard to gauge the atmosphere at a Gaa match cos the crowd is split 50/50 even less with other matches on the day. at CP the crowd is overwhelmingly in our favour and this is the way it works for most clubs. was at the kerry/monaghan - waterford/limerick double header last year and thought the place was electric. you can't deny it's a top class venue though.

Croker is an absolutely magnificent stadium. It's definitely one of the best in the world. The view and the structural design of the place is fantasic and a lot of the design ideas were copied by the architects who designed the Emirates..It's about as ultra modern as you can get but still retained that kinda traditional feel..The 5 nations game agin the English there was probably the best atmosphere i've ever experienced anywhere..

Tbh it's far better than the the Nou Camp and the San Siro which are falling down in places,Hampden is a shithole, don't know how anyone can say that it's better than Croker and Old Trafford i found fairly cold and suffers from a lack of atmopsphere.

u say the atmosphere was bad? you have obviously never been to an spl game then. celtic park does be dead unless its an old firm.

there's a railway line running behind the Hill and Croke Park would have to buy up all the residential houses to if they wanted to swing the stand around.
personally i'm glad it's there otherwise i would have never saw 10,000 mouths drop at once when ciaran macdonald kicked over the winner in 2006....
