Concerned at lack of Scots in our squad?

i was having a discussion with my brother earlier, and he was going on about how he wasnt happy with the lack of scotsmen in the squad, he was also saying they should bring a rule that forces scottish teams to have a certain number of scots in their line up, and that its shocking that forrest is our only good young player in years to come through

his other point was he doesnt think the old firm use their scouting systems as well as they could when scouting young scots, this all came from him thinking the national team were shocking against lithuania and celtic arent doing enough to help out

i agree in part but disagree in others

what do you guys think,

should we have more scots?

and should we be doing more to get good young scottish players?

 

Have you seen the state of scottish football? Why would you want more scottish players

i told you its not my opinion it was my brothers, and he is a big follower of the national team, so he thinks the old firm should have scottish player and bring them through thier youth systems too

personally i think with the amount of young scots playing in the championship and premiership they're playing at a good level, thats good enough for me, so i dont really care about buying in scottish players, but i hope that young scottish players like forrest come through our youth more often tbh

 

They are on their way IMO - with any luck we'll have more players like Forrest coming through soon.

Until then... well if it's a choice between having mediocre scots and quality players from abroad I'd choose the latter every time.

no way. scottish players are generally *, i'm happy with brown, forrest and maloney, don't need any more

 

That is exactly why we have few Scots playing regulary for the first team bar the exceptions like Forrest.

Thats what I was thinking as soon as I read this thread!

 

I maybe a bit older than some on here but

I can remember when scotland produced some top class players.
so if we get the chance to nurture the young talented players
who would jump at the chance to join us i would love it.

Just give them a chance.Don't write them off.

Couldnt have put it better myself i can believe no one would a payed the money we payed for him but i would have got rid o him in that window there not good enough and without a doubt nowhere near good enough to captain us!!

 

I think if they were good enough they would be getting a game. I agree their name doesnt matter but I Would much rather we had a team full of scots as long as they were good enough for the team.

I think forrest and feruz will go onto great things, there will no doubt be some more that are coming through the ranks.

What worries me are the ones we miss. We should be snatching up the likes of steven fletcher, graham dorrans, craig gordon and lee wallace as soon as we see their talent.

It worries me that other SPL teams seem to nurture young scottish players better than celtic or rangers

 

dont care because just about every realistic scottish player outside of the old firm is pish so why would we want them?

I think we stil do try but sometimes we seem to need an immediate
fix ie a first team player
