I agree. My avatar picture hasn't changed since his European exploits of last year.

But lets not bring a player into this that has justifiably been dropped. Something Stokes deserves too.

We dont play Balde cos Lenny prefers our attackers to rotate in game. Today, eg, Stokes was going wide to try and create space and pick up possession. Balde, imo, is only capable of playing central. Stokes on the other hand, can drift wide and still have some effect. Imo Griffiths will take Stokes place on a more regular basis. Griffiths is not just a penalty box player and he too will drift or come deep to get possession.

In general the way we play under Lenny will not allow a player like Balde to hold down a place on a regular basis.

I agree, I doubt Balde will ever be number 1. He was obviously purchased to add a new dimension to the team i.e a target man. Unfortunately, for him, we've not really required that type in the league this year.

Griffiths is somewhat similar to Stokes but I honestly think if he was given the opportunities Stokes got today he'd have been walking away with at least 2 goals.

I like my strikers to come out of the box and create a bit but more than anything i want them to be on the end of attacks which Stokes rarely is adn when he is he squanders it.

The team needs freshened up and Stokes is next in line to be dropped

Balde is working every day on his link up play.

To say he will never be number one striker is doing a disservice to very people trying to make him into a better player.

The signing of Griffiths should tell Stokes all he needs to know tbh. I am in no doubt at all he will be first pick before Stokes in the long run. Or at least be given a very good chance to be. A lot of Griffiths' goals come from outside the box from what I've seen and I think that maybe after next week, he will play most games until the end of the season.

I'm not saying he shouldn't, i'm saying I don't think he will. He'd improve with more game time. But he isn't getting that unfortunately.
I said before the game that he has to play a blinder today to keep his place. Maybe the Griffiths signing unnerved him a bit today but he hasn't helped his position in the team at all today.

If Griffiths gets the nod, then i would rather have a stokes come on as a sub if things are not going to plan than say balde or Dirk Bogarde.

Great achievement from Fraser and the rest of the team. I won`t go on about Anthony Stokes mistake or I`ll be sent down to support tiddlywinks.
    Well done Celtic.

Quite enjoyed the game to be honest.

    Positives:

Clean sheet (11th in a row fs, incredible achievement).
Good link-up play, especially in midfield and somewhat in the final third.
Brilliant full-game debut for Johansen, read the game well defensively and played
intelligently with composure when in possession.
We won, we're unbeaten and setting ourselves realistic and high standards.
Tones of Tims won money on Commons' 1st goal scorer.

    Negatives:

Finishing wasn't great, Stokes decision making when 1 v 1 on the keeper was selfish and incredibly poor for a Celtic striker, needs to improve for next game (if not dropped temporarily)

We looked tentative and nervous towards the end for some reason. We were in control the whole game and then started to look uncomfortable quite needlessly as St Mirren went posing much of a threat.

'S about all i took from it.

I only got in just before halftime but I thought we played well. Even though we made hard work of it at the end. I have no idea how Stokes missed that.

Wide drifters are only effective if they manage to pull away opposition players towards them. St. Mirren stayed solid inside of their box- we had no real physical presence in it. Balde is a must, especially with the crossers we have in the team.

I'll be amazed if Griffiths is not given a run of games. Stokes will be used a lot more as a sub imo. Although in saying that, I would prefer to see what Derk can do on the left side where it seems he is much more comfortable. I'd give Mulgrew a spell on the bench to accommodate him. Bringing him on as a sub for 15/20 mins on the right side is doing him no favours.

Not knocking Charlie but we're in a position where we can give players a run.

Although I agree with your theory, it seems that Lenny prefers those that rotate. I think Balde has looked useful when he plays but I just dont see him being a regular for a while yet.

I wish Lenny had a fan contact page. Someone needs to tell him the obvious things, sadly.

Aye he's going to listen to some * zoomers on the internet

Unbeaten all season, 11 clean sheets in a row and the manager needs advice from us armchair managers. :smiley-laughing002:

Are you implying no fan of Celtic has good ideas to offer to him? He is also, still an inexperienced manager compared to Strachan, for example.
