TBQH our main takeaway from this group is how do we replicate what RB Salzburg have created? Cant use their finical backing as an excuse now that Red bulls attention is focused on the Leipzig mob.

Salzburg honestly gave us a hiding tonight, one you'd expect from Europe's elite sides. We are a team from a similar standard league, with a larger infrastructure and a exponentially larger fanbase. How can we be so considerably worse in playing staff

 

Hopefully this underlines to the board that the freshening up of the squad has to be attended to. Not looking at massive overhaul this January, but a couple of new faces ready for first team would be good.

And that doesn't mean another Jack Hendry level signing.

do you think rogic, sinclair, edouard were selfish, glory hunting or greedy in their play ? or could/should they have chosen better options ? rather than taking the man on and promptly getting schooled by the salzburg players and the ball taken off them

the manager must have prepared them and tought them how to play against salzburg they never suprised me or i guess any celtic supporter or pundit so how come our team and players seemed to be suprised ?

there was one instant that the camera focussed on gordon and he was shouting on the players in front of him to move this is kind of what i noticed earlier in the season with us domestically, i dont know if the problem is the players think its too easy the football playing lark, but the players definately were static far too often and not moving and rotating into spaces giving the passing player an option, maybe they are freezing up when the pressure is on them ?

another thing i noticed is we seem incapable of adjusting our game on the park when things arent going our way, martin oneils team for eg when playing a good european side you could see the players talking to each other, adjusting and learning how to play against this team, we dont seem to be able to do that, no talkers in the team ?

maybe salzburg have got this spot on go out there and get good technical hungry hard working young players, they dont seem to suffer from big egos and poor play, which we do at times

 

Big shout out to the Rosenborg keeper.. some spectacular saves, we definitely owe this guy for us going through. Their scorer will get plenty of credit but Leipzig should have been out of sight with the chances they created.

 

gratulations on advancing glad i can see more celtic games in spring and EL.
on the downside, apart from the result, salzburg played pretty bad today... obvious big hole in the midfield with 2 of our best midfielders (schlager and haidara) missing.
expected them to play way more solid with more pressure.

Really though, we either need to invest far more in our scouting department or just get better scouts in. The fact we've been signing guys like Bain, who was sitting on the Hibs bench, Hendry & trying to sign McKenna is pretty damning evidence that we're lacking in that department.

It's not just how they play as a team , they also have better players than us , more often than not better players will win.
They would have needed an off night and us at our best. they have took maximum points in groups the last few seasons , undefeated all this season 30 something games.

In the Spl were like Salzburg but when you come up against teams like that level, your weaknesses get exposed easily , too many mistakes and we can't impose our own game.
