    Gross and quite ridiculous generalisation.

And why do you feel the need to make a false dichotomy concerning our Irish and Scottish fans? Your attitudes to Ireland do not represent any Scottish Celtic fan I have ever met, if we're getting down to it.

In Dublin, definitely around my age anyway, there is * all Celtic fans compared to EPL fans, mainly Liverpool and United. The celtic fans definitely seem to know ten times more about their team, and football in general than the EPL fans though..

I'm referencing to the debate I mention in the second part of my post.

The guy called for Celtic to visit Ireland every year (full strength team etc) and more Irish fans agreed with him.

Clearly they must be exaggerating the numbers if that's what turns up to the aviva.

Dublin has always been more Liverpool and Man U, in that order, than it has Celtic.

Celtic support in Ireland has always been concentrated in Donegal, Belfast, Derry, north Mayo and the northern half of the country, because that's where those who worked in Glasgow came from.

That said there have always been small numbers of Celtic supporters through the country, even in areas with no history of migration to Scotland.

The Aviva has a capacity of 50,000 and it's fair to say at least 15,000-20,000 Celtic fans turned up (not to mention the large number of Liverpool fans who would be self-described Celtic fans; even if I don't like that approach, it accounted for a lot of people in the Aviva yesterday).

Even you can't say that reflects badly on anyone.

    In what sense?

As you correctly pointed out, it was basically a Celtic reserve team, and they won, keeping a clean sheet as well. They didn't keep the ball brilliantly and were on the back foot for pretty much all the second half, but it's very, very harsh to say they didn't turn up imo.

You dont even know how many tims were there.

I can assure you now the Irish bond with Celtic is still quite strong,as the thousands who travel to parkhead would agree.

    Im out.

Got it in one mate but I wouldn't even say 20 percent of those pool fans would be regulars to Anfield, if you were at at the game yesterday it was pretty evident they are pub supporters, the reason there were no songs coming from them is because they don't know any , how would they?? They don't go to games, im irish and new loads of pool fans yesterday who couldn't name 3 first team players FFS
We had between 15_ 20 thousand there and sung from start to finish, basically if you come across an irish lad who tells you he supports Celtic more than likely be will be a proper travelling fan, if they support an epl team they might not have ever been to a game!! For every 10 epl fans one Celtic fan would beat altogether the amount of times over a season the 10 of them would have been to a game..

You weren't "genuinely embarrassed" any more than you were when you contrived to ridicule the St Pauli fans in the Green Brigade thread. You were just showing yourself up for what you are.

Tbf i know alot of celtic fans in armagh that couldnt get tickets for the game and also because it was the weekend for the first round of the armagh club gaa championship. Id also say many others in ireland couldnt get their hand on tickets so maybe it was a coincidence that more liverpool fans got their hands on tickets!

Celtic do take their irish support for granted, whole the P.R. Commercial machine of the epl is in the back pages of irish newspapers everyday. Youll get six pages dedicated to the epl while a half or small column on celtic.
Kids grown up have already started supporting "the best league in the world" :87: kids read this day after day year after year and eventually believe it, so sad.
I wish celtic would again push their efforts here over the next decade to stop the rot of young fans becoming epl fanboys.

Doire bhoy is right there has always been a stronger celtic support from the north and west of the country.

I was the person that says the hoops should come over to Ireland, year in year out and not just Dublin to play foreign opposition. In ireland if you buy a newspaper or watch the sports section of the national news its all EPL,EPL, (unless there is a big gah game on). If Celtic were to send a team to Ireland to play the Setanta cup for example, every year I think the hoops would start to re-ignite it,s dwindling Irish support. Celtic has more connection to Ireland than any Epl side will ever have, and it would be fairly simple for the hoops to be the most supported team on this island again...:50::bbpd:

I must admit, the visual impact of the sea of red was quite disheartening, Liverpool clearly are a much bigger draw in Ireland than we are, no denying that. Unlike Glasgow_Bhoy 88, I think that's all the more reason that angusceltic67 is right. Frankly we take our Irish support for granted, who can blame them for drifting away. Took a few minutes for me to locate our fans; but heard them from the start and right though, singing their way through the repertoire. :50: No one can argue thay our fans in Ireland aren't real fans. Great job guys.
