For Paddy Reily's version of the fields, either tune down to Csharp, or put a cappo up at Csharp and play it an octave higher. Strum if you like but I like to pluck it out, i think it sounds better, especially if your playing it at a slower speed....pretty much randomly is fine, if your good you can embelish it quite nice. I'll put the chord next to the word in the lyrcis you change on.

    intro
    Am D G (continue on G, 'by a lonley')

    Change on 'Heard' to C
change on 'call-' back to G
then immediately to D on '-lling'
then back to G for 'Michael'
    'taken' C
    away D
    stole G
    corn C
    young G
    morn D
    bay G
    lie C
    fields G
    athenRYEEm
    once G
    flyD
    LoveG
    WingC
    DreamsG
    SingD
    AnthenRYEG

    Repeat

You can of course just play it at regular octave and just sing higher or at a regular octave with Reily's pitch and use F sharp minor, B, E, A, C sharp minor, but it doesn't sound quite right, IMO.

    FIELDS OF ATHENRY

    D
    By lonely prison wall
    G D A
I heard a young girl calling
    D G A
Michael they have taken you away
    D G
    for you stole Trevelyn's corn
    D A
so the young might see the morn
    A7 D
now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay

    Chorus:
    D G D Bm
Low lie the fields of Athenry
    D G A
where once we watched the small free birds fly
    D G
our love was on the wing
    D A
we had dreams and songs to sing
    A7 D
it's so lonely round the fields of Athenry

    By lonely prison wall
I heard a young man calling
nothing matters Mary when you're free
against the Famine and the Crown
I rebelled they ran me down
now you must raise our child with dignity

    Chorus:

    By lonely harbour wall
she watched the last star falling
as that prison ship sailed out against the sky
sure she'll wait and hope and pray
for her love in Botany Bay
it's so lonely round the fields of Athenry

that should keep you occupied :50: your welcome, been playing for 20 odd yrs now

rebel nights in the "free state of turkey" are popular :86:

    C F C G

Oh father why are you so sad on this bright Easter morn,
    C F C G C
When Irish men are proud and glad of the land where they were born,
    G C F G
Oh son, I see in memories' view of far off distant days,
    C F C G C
When being just a boy like you,I joined the I.R.A.(Provisional wing)

    </PRE>
    G C F G

Where are the lads who stood with me when history was made,
    C F C G C
Oh Gra Mo Criodh, I long to see, the boys of the old brigade.

</PRE>From hills and farms the call to arms was heard by one and all,

And from the glen came brave young men to answer Ireland's call.
Was long ago we faced the foe the old brigade and me
And by my side they fought and died that Ireland might be free.

</PRE>And now my boy I've told you why on Easter morn I sigh,

For I recall my comrades all of dark old days gone by,
I think of men who fought in the glens with rifles and grenade. May heaven keep the men who sleep, from the ranks of the old brigade.

    James Connolly :50:

    C C7 F C
A great crowd had gathered outside of Kilmainham,
    F C D7 G7
With their heads all uncovered, they knelt on the ground.
    C C7 F C
For inside that grim prison, lay a brave Irish soldier,
    F C G7 C
His life for his country about to lay down.

</PRE>He went to his death like a true son of Ireland,

The firing party he bravely did face.
Then the order rang out: 'Present arms, Fire!'
James Connolly fell into a ready made grave.
</PRE>The black flag they hoisted, the cruel deed was over,

Gone was the man who loved Ireland so well.
There was many a sad heart in Dublin that morning,
When they murdered James Connolly, the Irish rebel.
</PRE>Many years have gone by since the Irish rebellion,

When the guns of Brittania they loudly did speak.
And the bold I.R.A they stood shoulder to shoulder,
And the blood from their bodies flowed down Sackville Street.
</PRE>The Four Courts of Dublin, the English bombarded,

The spirit of freedom, they tried hard to quell,
But above all the din, came the cry: 'No surrender!' 'Twas the voice of James Connolly, the Irish rebel.

that should make your fingers blister :97: enjoy look forward to seeing you on tour over here :86:

For the rebs there used to be an excellent website, can’t seem to find it but I have printouts of loads in the loft. I’ll check the file path on them later mate to see if the website is still kicking about.

Failing that I can send you them all in the post

HAHAHA yeah lol not the best way to go as a beginner but stick at it, you'll get there for TABS for that style of music try
https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ Then run a search for the bands your interested in. Should be loads of what you need right there, the Celtic songs are more strumming whereas the rock stuff is more note for note Alternate picking have fun :)
