I know this has been discussed in the past but I'm at work and bored to * so realistically, do you think Celtic will ever expand the main stand? A full two tiered bowl and an upgraded facade would put Paradise right among the top football stadiums in the world I think. A big concern with this would obviously be domestic attendance levels but surely an extra ~20000 on European nights would be enticing to the board. Maybe an expanded/upgraded stadium would even boost domestic attendance levels a bit too, at least during the novelty stages. I've been to CP and it is certainly a wonderful venue but I could only imagine what it would be like if the bowl was completed.

Thoughts on if/when this will happen?

Not unless we start selling out the stadium for league games

No point in spending big money expanding the stadium when we can only fill it a handful of times a season currently

can't see it unless we move to a bigger or more competitive league.

adding 20,000 seats for 3 games just doesn't seem worth it, considering our average attendences are now about 45,000k or so.

Being realistic, we can only fill it for European games right now.

It would make no sense to expand to 65-70k unless we got a move to a better league or the other teams in Scotland suddenly became world class, neither of which look like happening any time soon.

It will never happen whilst we are playing in scotland.

It'll only happen if an when Celtic join a larger league setup. No point having an extra 20000 seats for four or five matches a year if it's going to be half empty for the other forty matches.
    Would look great though...

I guess that's a resounding answer. It's a shame domestic attendance levels are so low, but I guess that's what happens when the league is won before the season starts. I wonder how Deila will affect attendance levels for the next couple seasons.

The Main stand would be difficult as it's a listed building.
There is the problem of restricted views.
I was looking up how Celtic could apply to hold a Champions League or Europa League final and one stipulation (amongst many) is that there must be NO restricted views anywhere in the stadium.
The restricted views in the Lisbon Lion stand scuppers that plan.

Wheres the restricted views in the Lisbon stand? Is it further round the corner for the away fans?

I thought it was only up the back of 122.

It's actually worse than that, we sell about 45k tickets per game, but police figures have our actual attendances at about 30k. In other words, we're already back to the historical average.

They've been low (or rather back to normal) since Mowbray, mate. A good two years before Rangers died and the league became a foregone conclusion.

According to the book Soccernomics quality of stadium does have a positive effect on attendances, so I think there would be great crowds for a while and this does look stunning:

purely on aesthetics it would be nice but there is no need as we don't sell enough tickets as it is

would be good to see us in a european league at some point playing the bigger teams on a regular basis instead of playing against small town teams, but thats just the way it is unfortunately :(

Yeah, early 2010 seemed to be the beginning of the downward spiral for our domestic home attendances.

Still not fully recovered from the disastrous Mowbray days, and the death of our biggest competition just made it even harder, attendance wise.

At least Deila's appointment might help fill up the place a bit. Especially if he plays the style of football promised.

Imagine if Coyle had been appointed.....they'd have probably had to close a stand or 3.

Not sure where but it wouldn't matter.
UEFA state that there MUST be NO restrictions whatsoever for fans to view the match.
The following link gives the criteria.
