Aye it's Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,
    Celtic, Celtic on to victory,
They're the finest team in Scotland, and I hope that you'll agree,
We'll never stop till we've won the Cup and the Scottish Football League

They come from bonnie Scotland, they come from county Cork,
They come from dear old Donegal and even from New York,
From every street in Glasgow they proudly make their way,
To a place that they call Paradise and this is what they say.

There's Fallon, Young and Gemmell who proudly wear the green,
There's Clark, McNeill and Kennedy the best there's ever been,
Jim Johnstone, Murdoch, Chalmers, John Divers and John Hughes,
And sixty thousand Celtic fans who proudly sing the news.

Was looking up there to see if the team mentioned in the song ever played a game together and what games or whatever.

Was thinking this song was probably written for winning the Glasgow Cup in 1964?

Celtic beat Clyde 2-0 in the final.

Other games it might have been. A 7-0 win against Falkirk in January 1964, a 3-0 win against Dinamo Zagreb in December 1963 and a 5-0 win against Kilmarnock in November 1963.

Or does anyone know when the song was written?

It was definitely before 2005, I have a CD which I got in 2003 which has it on.
EDIT: I don't think the article is talking about the song, but about the album 'Songs for the Bhoys' which that version of the song is on.

I was singing the song when I was a child, and my Da was singing it before that ,so considering I'm 46, it's an old song.

I got a Celtic album years ago (O'Neill's first season maybe) and that song was on it along with quite a few unique Celtic songs. Quite a few rebs aswell... Sean South, BOTOB, Merry Ploughboy etc.

    It was an unofficial album.

    EDIT: Here it is...

I still have the original vinyl '45' record in its cover (hiding up in the loft somewhere)...it has a photo of a team around the time of its release. players sang the chorus and Frank Haffey did the solo part. Slattery's Mounted Foot is on the 'B' side.

Aye just noticed that there, that was released in 1964 but it wasnt the original version.

I wonder when We Shall Not Be Moved was first recorded too.

That sounds like a really old song. Possibly after we won the Double in 1954?
