CELTIC Football Club is delighted today to announce a fantastic event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the club’s famous European Cup victory in Lisbon.

The event will take place at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, on Thursday, May 25, 2017, fifty years to the day when the famous Lisbon Lions team ensured Celtic became the first British team to lift the most prestigious prize in club football.

Net proceeds from the event will go to Celtic FC Foundation to assist its work of helping people in need locally, nationally and internationally.

Featuring special guests from the world of football, music and entertainment, the city-centre extravaganza will turn Glasgow green and white, re-living the journey to victory in the heat of Lisbon and through music, comedy and conversation, to celebrate the success of 1967 which took world football by storm.

We are pleased to confirm that international rock icon, and more importantly one of our own, Sir Rod Stewart, will headline the event, performing a short set featuring some of his most popular songs. Sir Rod Stewart has sold over 200million records worldwide and this summer will see his first ever performance at the Isle of Wight Festival when he headlines on the Sunday night, June 11.
Sir Alex Ferguson, a UEFA Champions League winner himself and one of football’s greatest ever managers, will be present to offer his memories of the Lions’ achievement on that great day in Lisbon.
Other big football names from past and present will be in attendance as well as a range of music acts including Les McKeown’s Legendary Bay City Rollers and Scottish singer Eddi Reader.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “We are delighted to be able to announce an event which we believe will be a fitting tribute to the wonderful achievements of the Lisbon Lions, and who better to add tribute than our beloved Sir Rod as we mark the 50th anniversary of the greatest victory of all.

“Our triumph in Lisbon is something every Celtic supporter will always be proud of, and in becoming the first British team to win the European Cup, the Lions have laid down an amazing legacy which will resonate forever with generations to come.
“I have had the real privilege of meeting every member of this great team, men of such stature who represented Celtic with such grace, humility and dignity. As Celtic supporters, we will always hold their achievements in such high regard and the forthcoming event which we have planned will once again celebrate these achievements in style.

“We will honour all of the Lions, including those great men we have sadly lost. On May 25, 2017, Glasgow will be green and white and I am sure this will be a show which our supporters will be proud of”.
The event at the Hydro, which is sponsored by creditfix, will form the centre-piece of a week of celebrations, with a Civic Reception being held at Glasgow City Chambers on May 24 to honour the Lions, as well as a special Tribute Lunch in Glasgow on May 26. The Lions will also be present at a celebration evening in London on May 31.

Celtic Legend Jim Craig, on behalf of the Lisbon Lions, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the arrangements which the club has made to celebrate this anniversary year. It is very humbling to be honoured in this way and I am sure this will be an emotional, but fun evening with team-mates, friends, families and the best supporters of all.
“We had some very sad news recently with the passing of our great friend Tommy Gemmell. While we will mourn his loss for some time, we will also take this time to reflect, to remember all of our team-mates and, of course, celebrate what we achieved that great night in Lisbon”.

    Ticket Details:
Standard and Premium Season Ticket Holders will be given the chance to buy TWO tickets for the SSE Hydro event. Tickets go on sale from 10am this Thursday, March 23 and will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
Ticket prices will range from £25 - £70 and tickets will be available to buy online via Ticketmaster. Further information on ticketing for the event will be available soon at www.celticfc.net

It's interesting they've got SAF at it, an ex Rangers player and supporter!

Imagine there being a 72' celebration event in Govan and someone like Pat Crerand doing it! :56:

I think we might reveal our 17/18 home kit at this as well and it will be a remake of the 67 kit.

IIRC, don't think SAF has had much to do with them at all since he left Ipox, because he married a catholic? But he has always been very much an admirer of Big Jock.

    Just my thoughts!

All for the celebrations and charitable benefactors but £70 can be much better invested!

Would be nice to have the whole match shown on tv as if 'live' maybe modern commentary and pundits going over it! Hopefully some decent documentary stuff on the way!

    Bay City Rollers....jeezus !

I think they asked him because of his tribute to Big Jock that is shown somewhere on this site.

Reading a story about Big Jock.

This is what the reporter said

"Especially as he recounted to me the way he was shunned by his closest pal.

‘My mother told him I was in the house in the next room and to go in and see me,’ recalled Stein. ‘He never said anything. He just turned and walked out and never spoke to me again.’

Perhaps this helped forge his distinct social conscience, constantly rebuffing sectarianism and never losing sight of his mining roots.
He demonstrated this to me when I was driving with him during the miners’ strike in 1974 and he flashed on his full-beam lights in an attempt to dazzle the strike-breaking lorries coming from the pits."

    Brilliant.

Ferguson had more dealings with us than the Huns. He modelled himself on big Jock. And I think it was Beckham who said Fergie had them watch vids of Jinky on the team coach. And he was first to get in touch with Lennon during the bombs and bullets, and Neil had his ear for advice. So Mr Injury time is alright by me.

A lot of people have booked up to go to Lisbon and the club are doing nothing over there which I find a bit shocking tbh

CELTIC are gearing up to commemorate the club’s most famous victory with a week of celebrations, culminating in a night to remember at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro.

On Thursday, May 25, 2017, stars from the world of football and music will come together to remember that famous day in Lisbon 50 years ago when Jock Stein led the Lisbon Lions to victory and into the history books as the first British team to lift the European Cup.

International rock icon and celebrity Celtic supporter Sir Rod Stewart will headline the event, with many other special guests appearing on the night including Sir Alex Ferguson and Russell Watson, as supporters re-live that incredible triumph from 1967.

The names that are indelibly etched in the memories of Celtic fans across the globe – Simpson, Craig, Gemmell, Murdoch, McNeill, Clark, Johnstone, Wallace, Chalmers, Auld and Lennox – will all be celebrated as Glasgow is turned green and white in honour of that famous day in May ‘67.

And two of those legendary Lions, John Clark and Jim Craig, were at the club’s Lennoxtown Training Centre today (Tuesday), to help launch the event alongside current Celt, Scott Sinclair.

And the two Celtic legends are proud that their achievements are still being celebrated all these years later.

Speaking to the official Celtic website, John Clark said: “We’re delighted to hear about the event at the Hydro. No doubt Celtic will put on a great show for us and we’re looking forward to attending. We’re delighted to be here and hopefully there on the night. What more can you ask for.”

And Jim Craig, who supplied the pass for Tommy Gemmell to fire home Celtic’s equaliser in Lisbon, said: “It’ll be a good day for the fans as well to be able to take part, and we’ll look forward to seeing a good number there on the day.

“It’s a very emotive occasion for us. To have won the European Cup in the first place was a great achievement and to still be here 50 years later is amazing. We’ve lost a few in numbers, we’ve lost one recently too with Tommy, so there’s that side to it too. It’ll be an emotional night for us.

“The main thing is that we can celebrate being the first Scottish and British team to win that trophy. They always talk about legacy, and the legacy that we left was showing that it could be done, that winning the European Cup was achievable. We have a lot to be thankful for.”

Net proceeds from the event will go to Celtic FC Foundation to assist its work of helping people in need locally, nationally and internationally.
