    Something that I've been thinking about since I read today that California vetoed a ban on semi-automatic weapons;

    Personally, I can't see it happening in my lifetime. It would raise far too many issues nationwide :54:

    Not in my lifetime. Don't know what atrocity is going to snap them out of this obsession with firearms.

    As long as they associate gun restriction with an infringement of their basic human rights it will always be an impossible goal.

    Never, it is far too engrained in their culture. I think there will likely be a move towards banning certain types of weapons - you dont need a machine gun to go hunting - but I think too many US states were born on a frontier and it has become too entwined in their lifestyle. Also, guns have been so easily obtained for so long that any gun cull would only take protection away from law abiding people while criminals will keep hold of theirs.

    If the gruesome murder of their children isn't enough to make them rip up that ridiculous * constitution of theirs, then nothing is. They put their constitutional rights above their children's right to life.

    The sheer number of firearms in the US makes it nigh on impossible.

    Never.

    They are utterly obsessed about having a gun and take great offence about any suggestion of losing it.

    * joke of a law. They hold it too close to their hearts. And such a big shock when some nut job goes on a shooting spree.

    No chance of it. The people are too stuborn and simply can't see the benefits of the removal of guns. I had an argument with an American guy and he spewed some load of crap to do with feeling safe and a rebellion if they removed guns. But just told him that I would prefer my chances of escaping a guy with a knife than some guy with a gun and that in the future he can send his kids to school in a society with shootings and I'll send mine knowing that they won't be gunned down by some Texan with an itchy trigger finger. Never got any more of his pro firearm rubbish again.

    Let's just say after a number of burglaries near my home i'd feel much safer if i had a gun to protect my home. I for one respect their gun laws and the reasons for it.

    But if we legalise firearms, then that likely means the robber would carry a gun too (they'd be stupid not to), and then it simply becomes a gunfight where one of you dies if you were to meet the robber. Not really much of a protection there is it?

    I'm not picky.
    Absolutely no way will there ever be a gun ban in the US. There may (and I emphasise the word may) be a time where the gun restrictions become tighter to own a gun, which would be the right thing to do rather than just a complete ban, but there won't be a ban.

    I may be wrong but I think Clinton banned guns like the AR15 and semi-automatic rifles like that back in the 90s. Of course, George "Dubbya" Bush reversed the ban though :rolleyes:
