    Guys,

I have to admit, i rate caldwell bottom of the pack, as a diehard celtic fan i cannot wait to see the backend of caldwell. Dont get me wrong he does put in half decent performances in average games but lining him up along with stephen mc manus in champions league games and meaningful games is a joke. When i see him in the team sheet each week it puts my head away.

I know there isnt much to choose from (defensively) at celtic but come on, ill take big bobo (touch of an elephant) before him lol

    OPINIONS PLEASE......

Having watched him over the past 5 years i know he is not a centre half. He has made some horrendous errors for us in huge games, much as Bobo has done.

He is not dominant enough in the air or good enough at positioning himself. I'd have liked to see one of the two young boys get a run out last season. If you think he is better player than Mick then you must have a short memory. If he continues to play average then that great but every player has to have a purple patch.

He's good to have in the squad as he can cover so many positions but i'd rather not have him as first choice.

caldwell and mcmanus are two diffrent defenders to me.
calldwell is a footballer. he picks the passes out and stays calm when he has the ball.
mcamus is a defender that will go right through a striker and gets the ball to * when needed and doesn't make the passes caldewell makes.

Caldwell played well on sunday, was solid pre-season and in the last 7 games or so and hes always a threat in the oppositions penalty box and lets not forget how many assists hes made for us.

anyone who still rates caldwell as totally useless hasn't actually truely WATCHED a celtic game in a long time.
they might have the game on the telly every other week but they aren't actually watching it. OR as just stuck with this caldwell is pish mindset that they can't actually see he's doing brilliant.

Reitterating my point, he plays well in small games i.e celtic v st mirren on saturday?? is that not what i said earlier, he does let us down in big games, champions league level and against bigger opposition.

Basing my opinion on the last half of last season and the beginning of this one, I would have Caldwell before McManus any day. Caldwell's calmness on the ball and distribution has come on leaps and bounds and remember thats after he was getting all sorts of stick at the beginning of last season. The lads got some amount of character as well.

In saying all that i still fear for CL games as neither are gifted pace wise and i reckon top quality strikers with their movement could leave them looking pretty exposed.

I really like big Mick as u can see he's a celtic man through and through and handles himself off the pitch like a celtic captain should, but sadly i don't overally rate him as a player. I think Caldwell is a better player.

If I was WGS i'd be lookin for a top class centre back to play alongside Caldwell.
