Just because I think that our players are bang average SPL players, that doesn’t mean other SPL players are good enough for us.

What a silly thing to say in the Rodgers thread.

All of the players we've been discussing would start for Hearts, no doubt..

Since when was players having the ability to get games for other SPFL teams a measuring stick of where we should be? We should be aiming far better than Mikey Johnston, Liam Scales, David Turnbull and Greg Taylor and that should be the overwhelming point of the disgruntlement.

The simple reality is, these guys shouldn't be starting but they are, because we have no one else. Should we still have enough to beat Hearts at home with the team we started? Yes, but don't be surprised if other teams are beating us when we are relying on these guys... guys Ange bombed out and wanted upgraded.

There's a reason why we will finish 30 points or so above Hearts/3rd place... because we are better than them. In the final games of last season, when we played players on the periphery of the squad so we could protect our first teamers for the Cup Final, we drew with Motherwell, got spanked by Rangers and Hibernian and drew with St Mirren. 10 points dropped in them final games.

Yes, the league was won but the guys coming in were wanting to show that they were vital members of this squad and could be utilised as much as possible. It wasn't dead rubber games for them. It was make or break. Now, not only are we relying on these same guys because of injuries and the removal of 3 major players in our successes last season(jota, mooy, starfelt), we are relying on guys that were moved on and deemed worse than the back ups who we deemed not good enough, because our recruitment was so * bad that we can't rely on these guys either.

Yes, Rodgers has to take his fair share of the blame but there are far bigger issues with this squad which was apparent at the back end of last season.

Yes, it’s not. It should be good enough but our manager can’t get the performances out of them - and said after the game it doesn’t surprise him at all. All roads leads to the manager not getting * all out of his players.

Nah I don’t think so. Would you want Turnbull starting in a midfield coming to Celtic Park? Taylor is a middle the road SPL player. Scales likewise. Johnston is just * hopeless.

Unless you do it towards the board in the ground. Then you get flung out.

Anyone behaving in a threatening manner at the stadium should be thrown out.

Need to disagree on that one..

Do you not put any blame at Rodgers door?

I wouldn’t say none of the blame. Very little though. Because I saw this coming in the summer after the transfer window. I said very early on it has Covid season vibes about it. Because some fans have never gotten over him leaving. So when things got sticky, they were always going to turn on him. When the root of the problem is the board.

    This is the problem.

We shouldn't be benchmarking against other SPL sides. Its why the board have us where we are at and completely unable to compete in Europe.

It reeks of zero ambition. I agree with @murphy88 tbh. I don't think Taylor would start over Kingsley at Hearts for one and I don't think McInnes would have him in ahead of that big strong pacey LB of theirs.

Johnston, Yang etc wouldn't play over someone like Armstrong who consistently causes us and the Huns tonnes of bother as well.

We have a lot of average as * players who are scared to play for celtic.

This is a very good point.

I can buy the “we need more quality” excuse if we our players are performing to a strong level and are coming up short.

The majority of our squad are simply not performing and so thats where Rodgers doesnt have a leg to stand on. That group of players should have more than enough to put away Hearts.

We could have played another 90 minutes and still not looked like scoring.

All I hear is good players don’t turn * over night. But good managers also don’t. I refuse to believe any of this is purely Rodgers fault. I also 100 percent believe we’ll win the league, Rangers are pish. January is a huge month.

Scales just got man of the match vs Feyenoord and enjoyed a good loan spell at Aberdeen last season where he was a mainstay. He isnt middle of the road in our league.

Turnbull has had strong seasons in the SPL also.

As limited as Taylor is, he was steady last season and was probably in the top two or three left backs in the league.

Scales was supposed to be sold to Aberdeen. We thought it was his level. Something changed. McGregor wasn't an immediate standout early in his career. Ajer was an SPFL level player while with Kilmarnock.

No, our players would get games for SPFL teams.

You're right on the board using the league as a benchmark. But if the SPFL teams had vastly better players than us, we'd be 4-5th.
