The longer this day goes on and the more that comes out about how he's handled this whole thing he's fast becoming one of the most unlikable * we've ever had at the club, success or not.

Brendan Rodgers gathered the Celtic players after training on Monday afternoon to drop the bombshell that he was leaving the club.

It is understood that the first-team squad were so taken aback by the news that it was initially thought that the Northern Irishman was joking.

Rodgers had refused to go into any great detail on Sunday both before and after Celtic’s win over Motherwell, stressing only that he was focused on the day itself and getting a result.

However, having been linked with other posts, those comments did not seem to arouse any great fear among the Celtic playing squad.

The news from Rodgers that he had overseen his final training session at last game at the club was met with an emotional response from the first-team squad.

Rodgers has been in talks all day today with Leicester and is expected to be formally announced imminently. The expectancy from the Premier League side is that he will be in attendance tonight for the game against Brighton and will take charge of his first game against Watford this weekend.

It has been a swift process, with Celtic left stunned by the alacrity of the move.

The Parkhead side will appoint Neil Lennon until the end of the season.

I can see exactly why people are upset. I can't ever remember such a high calibre manager at the club, being snatched away from us at the business end of the season, while we're on course for a treble and one step closer to potentially one of the most historic times the club will ever experience. He's left us with a massive period of uncertainty and all the knock on effects not having him at the club will bring. Whoever we appoint next, will be a downgrade. The timing of it makes it so much worse, too.

@Deebo raised a point earlier saying that if he had left in the summer, the fans would have directed their anger towards the board, but now it's directed at Rodgers.

Has a manager ever actually left us mid-season, without being sacked?

Trying to remain rational about it, and I know that the perception Rodgers will have is totally different to the perception we have as fans. I know that working for the club and the politics within a big club can be more of a strenuous working environment than most realise. It's more obvious than ever now, that Rodgers wasn't happy with the inner workings of the club. He could have stayed for this season, or even for the ten, and still have realistic expectations of managing for another 20 years. There would have still been EPL jobs available. It's hugely disappointing and baffling, so I have to assume that the breakdown in his relationship with the board played a huge part in his decision.

I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt and think he hasn't went purely for the money, I guess we'll never know the full truth as I expect a generic 'Thank you for letting me live my boyhood dream' type of farewell statement from him.

When I woke up this morning I googled his name and I was in utter disbelief when I saw the headlines. It felt like I had been cheated on, with a boot in the baws to go with it. I think it's a poor career move from Rodgers and other clubs will remember he walked out on his so called 'boyhood club' in the middle of a season. He'll only ever be half a season away from the sack at Leicester. Someone posted earlier that Leicester have been through four managers, in the time that Rodgers has been at Celtic?

His reputation is sure to take a hit at Leicester, regardless of the fact that most managers would find them an attractive club to manage.

I totally empathise with anyone who's saying they've lost respect for him, because I feel exactly the same way.

Any respect BR had from the fans has been well and truly thrown out the window. Nothing against him wanting to move but the timing of this is a * disgrace. Not as if Leicester are going down so he could quite easily have seen us through to a historic treble treble and agreed a move once this season has ended. If he'd done that he'd leave with his head held high and respected. Now though he's shown his true colours and I for one won't be wishing him well for the future.

The galling thing is something like this doesn't happen overnight. BR and even the Celtic board must have known about this for a few weeks at least. All the while keeping us like mushrooms- kept in the dark and fed utter bullshit!

Yes we can still achieve that but it's not going to be easy with many players futures now being uncertain. Players need to respond positively starting with thumping the Diets on Wednesday. Then winning every * game left until the end of the season.

As for next season many ST holders will now hold off renewing until we see who becomes the next manager. A cheap option is simply not going to be acceptable.

He has given us a lot of joy but sadly he’s going to be remembered equally for the way he’s snuck off to the poisoned chalice of Leicester hours after they approached us. Very disappointed, and why it’s happened right now is beyond me. The dignified thing would be to see out the season, but to be strolling around their stadium so quickly is a sore one.

A bit of perspective here bhoys. Although Rodgers has left us in a spot so far into the campaign and it is * and a bit *. In Brendan's defence he had went public about lack of funds and lack of ambition by the board. The story got out about how bad the relationship between Lawell and Rodgers and a truce being called. Obviously the relationship didn't thaw and something in the January window contributed to it.

I'd guess it has spoiled further since then to a point Brendan could see no other option.
Leicester have offered him an escape and it seems it was now or never. I thought he'd leave after this season and never like this. I won't stick a boot in as there is always two sides.
