Could be bringing in Tosic , But as much as we need a CB we really have been lacking creativity at times.
Miss Roberts and Rogic .. but not only that the Hearts and Hun game(2nd half) the Midfield was wrong and we couldn't get the supply to Dembele it was the same with Griff..if a team presses you have to be brave on the ball and pass around and out of the press..that's why Ntcham should be playing.

Ntcham and Edouard this season basically fuckall until they touched down in Glasgow. Compper even..

I know we were watching Dembele before Brendan but even that was pretty quiet all those month's until he was close to signing..

They don't have much to go on in the media where our business is concerned recently..

He brought Coutinho into Liverpool and a few others Coutinho has payed for most of their transfers and it'll be the same for us if Dembele goes...worked and improved some of the best such as Sterling & Suarez.

Something was eating Brendan Rodgers even before a question was put to him at the daily press conference yesterday. When the line of enquiry that followed, naturally, involved the never-ending helpings of transfer speculation which accompanies any transfer window, the sit-in didn’t prove easily digestible to the Celtic manager.

For one, it wasn’t even the normal sit-in. While ordinarily, Rodgers takes his chair and chats loquaciously with reporters over any subjects raised, yesterday the Irishman said he was too busy to sit, and elected to stand behind the chair set aside for him. An odd situation never witnessed before in his 19 months at the club, so too was the unmistakable curtness Rodgers
displayed throughout.

It was hard to decipher whether the Celtic manager’s mood wasn’t helped by the fact the transfer-window natter seems to have revolved around losing players more than bringing them to the club.

In the context of yesterday’s conference, it certainly wasn’t helped by raising Kris Commons’ questioning of the club’s transfer activity in the area of central defence. The former Celtic playmaker effectively stated that if Jozo Simunovic was sold – the Bosnian international is reported to be on the radar of Lazio and Burnley – then Rodgers would not have a central defensive pairing fit for purpose for the Europa League tie against Zenit St Petersburg next month.

New signing Marvin Compper is ineligible for the competition, and injured now anyway. With Erik Sviatchenko having gone on loan to former club FC Midtjylland, Commons does not believe teenager Kristoffer Ajer could provide the necessary backline solidity alongside Dedryck Boyata – Rodgers’ recent preferred partnership.

The Celtic manager became narky initially when asked if there had been any concrete offers for Simunovic. “Nothing,” he said. “I don’t want to stand here and talk about players or waste my time trying to give you lines to put in the paper to look to sell players. There are no offers, there is nothing. That’s the same for every player.”

It was then put to Rodgers that “there is a particular scrutiny on you with Europe in mind to strengthen [in central defence]”.

“No, there is not. Scrutiny by whom?” he snapped.

By at least Commons himself, it was suggested?

“Ok, move on. [before under his breath and disdainfully saying] Kris Commons…”

With Nir Bitton also a centre-back option, Rodgers said central defence wasn’t a priority area: “Not for me, no”.

It was though when he was asked, in general terms, whether transfer speculation was what frustrated him most that he found a theme he could really vent his spleen over.

“Yes, it is. I am one that is about deeds not words. I have heard some s**t since I have been up here. It is the one part of your industry that I do not like. I don’t want to stand here and waste my time when I have a mountain of things to do rather than talk about speculation or what Kris Common or other guys have said. Everyone has an opinion but opinions are not always the reality.”

The reality is that Lewis Morgan, who has been loaned back to the St Mirren from whence he was purchased for £300,000, is the only notable signing by Celtic in the month of January. Yet, it was Rodgers who spoke of a “revolving door” at the club after the draw with Rangers on 30 December.

That might suggest a frustrating window so far for Rodgers. When that was put to him, he demurred. “No, not really,” he said. “We know what we want and we’re pretty calm on that. We just need to bring in quality. I’m not concerned about the numbers we bring in. The job here is to bring in quality to improve the level we are at, and that usually takes time.”

Rodgers said no bids have been made for players at other
clubs but he expects that to change in the coming weeks and is “hopeful” Celtic will be stronger coming out of the window than going into it.

NEW signing Marvin Compper has been ruled out for a MONTH with a calf injury — adding to Celtic’s injury woes.

German stopper Compper will miss the Scottish Cup clash with Brechin after being crocked in training in Dubai.

Compper joins Tom Rogic, Stuart Armstrong, Patrick Roberts and Jonny Hayes on the sidelines, with Leigh Griffiths doubtful for the Scottish Cup fourth round tie.

But Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers, who has let Erik Sviatchenko and Liam Henderson leave Celts, insisted he won’t be rushed into panic buys.

Asked if he felt the Hoops’ squad was stretched due to the mounting injuries, Rodgers said: “Yes, but it’s OK.

“We have a good squad, a chance to bring young players up, and see how they cope and develop, then look to get one or two in.

“We know what we want and I’m pretty calm on that. We just need to bring in quality. I’m not concerned about the numbers we bring in.

“The job here is to bring in quality to improve the level we are at — that usually takes time.”

On the latest injury blows to Compper and hernia op star Armstrong, the Celts gaffer added: “Marvin has a calf injury. He will probably be out for four weeks.

“It is unfortunate. He was in Dubai and got injured towards the end of a game we had.

“Stuart should be back training in ten days. We’ve gone for the best treatment possible, so he’s gone straight to Munich for his operation.

“He was playing with the problem and it just got worse and worse, so best to operate now.

“We’ve lost quite a bit of creativity with Patrick Roberts out, too. We’ll hopefully identify the right ones and bring them in.

“Rogic could be six to eight weeks and Roberts is not back until February.

“Leigh Griffiths didn’t train today, so we’ll see how he is. He twisted his ankle a bit, so we’ll see how it is over the next couple of days.”

Compper, 32, has still to kick a ball since his £1 million move from RB Leipzig, while Celts’ other January buy Lewis Morgan has been sent back to St Mirren on loan for the rest of the season.

Rodgers remains interested in Chelsea playmaker Charly Musonda, and is keen to strengthen for next month’s Europa League last 32 tie against Zenit St Petersburg.

Rodgers added: “We bring players in not just for the short-term but for the long-term.

“You think about Europe, of course, but you can’t be governed by it.”

Rodgers recently expressed his desire to ensure Celts are stronger by the end of the window.

He reiterated: “Hopefully that will be the case.”

Ex-Hoops hero Kris Commons has claimed Rodgers would come under pressure and scrutiny for not bringing in another stopper if they were exposed against Zenit.

But the Parkhead boss wasn’t impressed and responded tersely: “I’m about deeds, not words. I’ve heard some s*** since I’ve been up here. I’m worried about deeds.

“I have a mountain of things to do rather than talk about speculation, or what Kris Commons or other guys think.

“Everyone has an opinion, but the opinions are not always the reality.”

Rodgers explained his thinking behind Danish stopper Sviatchenko’s exit on loan to FC Midtjylland.

Rodgers said: “Erik needed to play. Others jumped ahead of him in the queue.

“Denmark are going to the World Cup and if he’s playing then he at least has a chance of getting in the squad.”

I don't believe that for a minute or he'd be offski , have to wait till the window closes then see where we are.
Let's face it he has a strong hand with the board, 4 trophies out of 4 not lost one yet 5 just about in the bag ..that leaves the scottish and progress in Europa.

Probably the first time I've read about BR being proper agitated since he's came to Celtic. Doesn't help that half his squad is being decimated by injuries and the other half are being touted for the chop.

Would've liked to have seen his face when he said Kris Commons' name :giggle1:

I thought Rogic was back end of month. 6-8 week's. 100% we'll sign a playmaker..

Hopefully Sky does a game soon and Brendan is invited up beside Commons and fat Boyd. Both would be stuttering like *..

Never forget that rat McCann sandwiched between Brendan and Lenny as if he wasn't there asking all sorts of buzzard questions :56:

Surely to * the Celtic board cant be intent on * Brendan off?

As I said last night goes to show how he rates Erik when he has let him go on loan when he already knew Compper is out for a month.

Going into the next month if we don't make any additional signings but Brendan did say he is "hopeful" take from that what you will but I will go back to a year ago the now:

Albion Rovers Presser - "We had added young Kouassi, and look to add more very important window in terms of the short summer looking to get at least 2 in over the next 10 days" - Brendan Rodgers

St Johnstone Presser - "Working away hope for movement on one before the weekends game with hearts" - Chris Davies

Hearts Presser - "The one we want is taking a bit longer than we hoped but still hopeful of adding at least one" - Brendan Rodgers

Aberdeen Presser - "No signings incoming and that's it, we look again in summer" - Brendan Rodgers

Surely the board wont do it again this season, their has to be some quality out there we can sign. Going into the next month our squad is

    GK

    Gordon
    De Vries

    Def

    Lustig
    Gamboa
    Tierney
    Jozo
    Boyata
    Ajer

    Mid

    Brown
    Bitton
    Ntcham
    Kouassi
    McGregor
    Forrest
    Sinclair

    Fwd

    Dembele
    Edouard

    Injuries

    Roberts - 4 Weeks
    Compper - 4 Weeks
    Rogic - 8 Weeks
    Stu - 4 Weeks
    Hayes - 20 Weeks
Griffiths - Unknown - depending on swelling in ankle

    Development Players

    Miller
    Ralston
    Johnstone

    Potential Departures

    Gamboa
    Dembele
    Kouassi

Squad is as thin as I have ever seen it - primarily due to injuries so you have to either rough it out or make some signings if no injuries squad is strong as * middle to front - just part of football.

Games in the next 4 weeks

    Brechin (home)
    Thistle (away)
    Hibs (home)
    Hearts (home)
    Killie (away)
    Scottish Cup Next Round
    Zenit (home)
    St Johnstone (home)

    That's some run of fixtures.
