Celtic in Premiership action once again later this evening - and looking for an immediate response - when they host the visit of 3rd placed Aberdeen.
Brendan Rodgers will be looking for his side to bounce back from the disappointment of the 2-1 defeat by Hibs at the weekend, which in context is understandable, but credit where credit is due, the Edinburgh club deserved what they got from the match.
Despite that result at Easter Road and due to results elsewhere, Celtic still hold a commanding 13 point advantage at the top of the League ladder, meaning that the Bhoys still only require a maximum of 7 wins to secure a 4th straight title.
And in another indicator of the Celts dominance, especially at home, should the Hoops beat the Dons and keep a clean sheet in the process, it will be 10 straight League games at Paradise that Brendan's Bhoys will have won without conceding a single goal!
That would make for a perfect 10!
November: Daizen Maeda was the hatrick here against Aberdeen in the 6-0 League Cup Semi Final
The last time that these two teams square off at the beginning of December, just 4 points seperated them at the top of the table, and it appeared at that time that the Dons were potentially going to provide a real title challenge.
Fast forward to today, and that gap is now 28 points. Such has been the divergence in the form of the two respective sides in that time.
Jimmy Thelin has been busily bedding in and integrating the January arrivals into the team, which has seen them progress in the Scottish Cup as well as bacl to back League wins that finally snapped a club record 14 League game run without a win, including most recently, with a late 1-0 win over Kilmarnock at the weekend.
The Dons' Jimmy Thelin & Celtic's Brendan Rodgers willl go head to head for a 4th time this season
By the Numbers
- Celtic are undefeated by Aberdeen since May 2018, having won 22 of the last 28 meetings overall.
- The Hoops are also unbeaten at 'Home' against all domestic opposition since December 2024.
- The Bhoys are seeking a 10th straight Premiership win at Paradise,
- Celtic have not allowed a single Premiership goal at 'Home' since they hosted Aberdeen back in October, which finished 2-2. In fact, those are the ONLY League goals conceded at 'Home' so far this season.
- Aberdeen have not lost an 'Away game when they have scored first (W4 D1 L0), but have also not won an 'Away' game when they have conceded first (W0 D2 L6).
Team News
Celtic will once again be without Paulo Bernardo (ankle), while James Forrest nears a return. Considering the lacklustre start against Hibs at the weekend, don't be surprised if Brendan Rodgers were to make some changes to his starting XI for this evening's match.
As for the Dons, they could be without fullback Nicky Devlin, who hobbled off in the 1-0 win against Killie, and is likely to join Jamie McGrath, Dante Polvara, Ester Sokler, Jack Milne, Gavin Molloy and Vincente Besuljen, who are all sidelined.
Referee: John Beaton
Beaton made his Premiership debut in 2012 and has taken charge of 246 matches since that time. This is the third match this season that he has been appointed to involving Celtic, having officiated both September's Glasgow derby 3-0 win as well as the League Cup Final, back in December.
