    All great teams have top quality players fighting for each spot.

    If I were either player I would be over the moon at the prospect of playing with such a quality player.

    Stokes has already intimated as much publically but if either retracted into their shell due to competition being signed then they aren't up to being a Celtic player.

    Having Brown wide right as opposed to a winger on both flanks has given us pretty good balance, and it's fairly unlikely Lennon will drop Brown anyway. Still, we all know Lennon likes to rotate.

    I agree with your part about competition, but Bellamy is fairly similar to Hooper and (to a lesser extent) Stokes. I would have been happy bringing in competition to Samaras - ie a stronger, more physical player. As it stands we have Murphy who is rather ineffectual and Samaras who is only a little better. If Bellamy comes in I'd like to see Samaras and Murphy both go, and us bring in another striker to provide an aerial presence.

    Fair point Hammer. My concern also stems from the view that Stokes and Hooper have spent a season developing a good understanding. If Bellamy comes on loan (which looks the most likely) then he'll probably be the first pick on the team sheet every week. That means that at the end of the season, Bellamy will * off and leave us with a season of missed progress between Stokes and Hooper.

    That said, if Bellamy buggers off and leaves with a league winners medal then I probably won't care :icon_mrgreen:

    Don't get me wrong, I'd love for Bellamy to come here but it's not the perfect deal that some people are making out, IMO.

    If he want's to come okay then but he must come up here and stay and none this bollocks about him travelling up for games and missing training etc .

    Still do not think this is the right move for us we should be looking at buying our own players and not just some loan deal , plus i would much rather us go all out and sign a new keeper and Bellamy is not exactly the type of striker we need a target man.

    I don't know why but I'm not excited about this..

    It's probably because he was at Cardiff last season and I only seen him playing twice.

    Did anyone see him play regularly and is he still as good as he was for City?

    Why should they be , he can play in various positions but imo he is better than the two of them , anyway stokes and hooper are not guaranteed to start every week towards the end of last season i.e Hearts away , well at home on last day of the season and the cup final Stokes was 3rd choice Sammy and hooper where his preferred partnership nobody is guaranteed a game infect on current form yes it's still early but stokes looks sharper than hooper .

    All that aside we couldn't knock back a player of this calibre he is class and if he has any problems regarding fitness I'm sure a strict medical will show any problems , wages don't concern me 30-40k is hardly going to break the bank

    To be honest, I don`t see it happening. Just a few things a don't get about loaning Bellamy to us, Man City would have to make some sort of contribution to wages for a guy who`s in the last year of his contract. Would be delighted if we did sign him but have my doubts.

    Good point regarding their progress as I reckon we look and perform better with both of them up front and playing together.

    I also agree he isn't the saviour, nor is he the explosive player we had several years ago but he would be without a doubt an ace in the pack. Experienced, still lightning quick and a potent finisher.

    He was also, strangely, City's best player the season before last and against all opposition.

    I don't think Lenny will play him everyweek, can't see him playing at home against the likes of Dunfermline, St Mirren etc!

    Didnt see him that much but 35 games, 11 goals, 10 assists, isnt a bad return and I'm sure he was played more as a winger, whenever I did see him though, he certainly hasn't lost any/much pace. People saying he is done is nonsense in my opinion, last season I never saw much of him admittedly but the season before he had arguably his best season for Man City.

    I don't like the idea of us with our settled team. Stokes top performer in pre season, Hooper banging the goals in as well. Brown our captain on the right, Commons scoring so many since only January. ... everyone working hard ..

    Then along comes Bellamy on 90k a week

    Would it not unsettle the lads, to me deserving players like Hooper Kayal Izaguirre deserve to have top salaries, it will be a bit of a * slap to players like Kayal who Celtic have been awkward about giving him a new deal to see some 32 year old with dodgy knees come swaggering in on 90k a week.

    From today's Evening Times:

    Gary Hooper today admitted he would love Celtic to land Craig Bellamy after Manchester City gave the green light for the Welsh striker to return to Parkhead.
    Agreeing personal terms with the man who has a one year remaining of a contract worth £80,000-per-week remains a major stumbling block.
    But Hooper would love to see the former Newcastle and Liverpool forward come to Glasgow again, even though it would mean increased competition for a starting spot. Bellamy, who spent five months on loan at Celtic in 2005, would be a certain starter if the deal comes off. But Hooper said: “I would welcome it. He is a quality player who scores goals and creates goals as well. He would make us even stronger.”
    Celtic are happy with the progress made during talks with City officials while both clubs were competing in the Dublin Super Cup over the weekend.
    A loan deal remains the most viable option, and City boss Roberto Mancini has indicated the Welshman – with whom he has had no working relationship since taking over at Eastlands last year – is available to move to the right club.
    Mancini considers Celtic fall into that category and said: “If Celtic want Craig, then he can go. Craig is a good striker and he can play at Celtic, because they’re an important team.”
    Despite the fact Bellamy was not in the City squad which won the Dublin Super Cup, Mancini revealed he had spoken to him on Friday.
    He said: “Craig is a strong striker, and I hope he can find a resolution to this situation.”
    Lennon will hope to get some form of closure on a saga which started before the transfer window opened, and needs to know how much of his budget will be taken up by a loan deal, or a full transfer.
    But for now, Lennon is satisfied to take a back seat and allow discussions between the clubs to take place at the highest level.
    He said: “I haven’t spoken about it, but I know there have been conversations between both clubs. The two clubs have been working on that in the background and, hopefully, there will be more to report on that at the end of the week.”

    Even if we manage to get Bellamy, what's the use, I'm not saying we won't, but we might not get a decent keeper.

    Seems that there's a very split opinion on this one and for different reasons;

    Bellamy plays;

    Hooper & Stokes partnership development suffers for a season
    Players deserving of a wage rise take the huff
    Whoever is left out when Bellamy plays takes the huff

    On the flip side there is also the following;

    Bellamy plays;

    Bellamy scores
    Bellamy assists
    Celtic win the league

    Hmmm, let me think! :icon_mrgreen:

    As above no brainer for me. As for the potential issues signing Craig may cause, that's what the manager's there for - to manage people and situations which may arise which would affect people. And if Lenny can handle everything thrown at him last season, he can handle this...

    In Lenny We Trust!
