hahahaha, I've been supporting the team for 36 years now, I expected a manager in keeping with the size of our club to be appointed, not a fingers crossed and hope he delivers cheapest option.

I think there is one bare fact that's shocking and that's his lack of experience. It seems he's going to install an older head into his backroom staff, I'm not saying that makes up for his lack of experience but it will certainly give him a person to turn to.

Before he was appointed we knew all the negatives and positives (there are positives whether people overlook them or not) and whether he's the appointment you were hoping for or not, we should all get right behind Lennon.

I'm more than concerned about the lack of experience Lennon has, the board have took a major gamble and Lennon has the chance he desperately craves. That's right, he's not had that chance yet and there's already people stopping purchasing things from Celtic and throwing toys out of the pram.

Lennon's hated by everyone on the outside and we've got some of our fans who are not going to back him before he has had a chance. Although I'm not confident either, I hope Lennon can prove to everyone not backing him, they were wrong to act like that.

Good luck Lennon, the majority of us will be right behind you from day one.

There were some on here advocating giving Mowbray up until next Christmas to prove his worth. I wonder if they still feel the same. No names no pack drill. I said that if Mowbray had stayed on we were probably heading for losing the league to Rangers by 16+ points. I still believe that is what would have happened if Mowbray hadn't got his jotters when he did.

Lennon slashed the deficit to just 6 points at the end, winning eight in a row, and thumping Rangers in his first Old Firm game. That is not a bad record to start off his full managerial career.

I'd be lying if I said I wanted Neil Lennon to get the manager's job at this moment in time. Mark Hughes was my preferred option and I'm sure the arrival of Hughes would have raised a few more eyebrows, and struck fear in a few more hearts, down Govan way.

However, it's not to be and Neil Lennon now has the job. He has my 100% backing and support but the reservations I have about his lack of experience will remain with me until he can prove they are unfounded.

I agree, but i'm happy with Lennon. Don't get me wrong, i'd be HAPPIER with Hughes or Hitzfeld but i'd rather we have Lenny that 70% of the folk we were linked with.

I'm fairly confident that we will sign good quality players. I think there's enough of a scouting network around him so that we can compete to sign for the likes of Ledley, Bullard, etc. I mean if anything they are more of a board/backing staff signing than Lennon imo.

What worries me is what happens when the going gets tough. He may be the red tops darling right now but I'm seeing worrying similarities to Mowbray. I remember this time last year Mowbray was to a lot of fans a breath of fresh air to the fans with his casual, positive, insightful and carefree approach to the press, giving them all the soundbytes they wanted to hear.

But he was getting in bed with the devil there - as soon as the going got tough, the red tops SLAUGHTERED him. I genuinely think this shocked Mowbray who went from being the press's best friend (how easy is this job?) to public enemy number 1. I remember a markedly different approach with the press and he took on the demeanour of a wounded animal - he started biting at his players (we need a new team), referees, and found out that he couldn't just play ball with the press.

Compare to the wise experience of Strachan who distanced himself as much as possible from the press and never gave them the light of day.

Lennon is falling into the same trap imo - darling of the press now but once the experienced SPL foxes start parking the bus and coming away with draws and wins, the press will be sharpening their knives as we speak.

I was one of them , only on the basis that he never got close to having things work in his favour , but because much of that was down to his own doing there's no regrets and thinking that he should still be in charge.. The St Mirren defeat was partly caused through playing a weakened team , a sign that he'd already given up on winning the league and was still assessing the likes of McGowan , Zaluska , Wilson and Ki (Leaving Boruc , Hinkel and Fortune on the bench).. For taking that liberty alone , considering the position we were in , it deserved to be his last game in charge.. We probably would have finished a good number of points further behind than we did if Mowbray stayed till the end of the season but I feel certain he believed he was to be given time to implement his two year plan or however long it was going to take , and he was unconcerned about the here and now while fans were losing patience.. I lose no sleep over his departure..

As you say Lenny's 8 SPL game record and one cup defeat upto now isn't a bad way to start his tenure..

Experience counts for nothing in the SPL in my opinion. Look at Mowbray and Le Guen. Bit of experience behind them, yet failed miserably.

What you need to be a success in Scotland is a deep understanding of the goldfish bowl of Glasgow and the fighting mentality your teams need to battle against the other 10 utter * teams in the league. Finesse, style and class would get you no where up here. All the other teams just kick lumps out of you.

Lenny knows what life in Glasgow is like. He knows how to battle and fight. I honestly believe if Wenger managed Rangers or Morihno managed us they would be failures. Their experience would count for nothing.

He'll do alright.

Thats just my opinion though, your all entitled to yours or to disagree with mine.

I think you are wrong... Mowbray never got the darling treatment from the press.. From day one he had the tag banded about that if he won as much as a manager , as he did as a player at Celtic then nobody would have anything to worry about.. He was always fighting against it and as you will have noticed from the I told you so's amongst our own support he never had the full backing of fans either so he definately wasn't the fans choice but many gave him their full support.. Once he tried to call for the level playing field the press turned on him using the paranoia slant..

Strachan was good in the respect that he had no time for the press but it also came across that he had no time for a section of fans.. It was either you are with me or you can GTF.. Trying to full us into thinking turgid pish affairs were fantastic games of football for the neutral and then having his mouthpieces in the team like Caldwell telling us that they would decide when they had played well , not anybody else.. It's not easy trying to find a happy medium where everyone is on your side but if you put a winning team on the pitch then there's not much flak that sticks..

Lenny hasn't been courting the press.. From all the press conferences I've seen on channel67 , BBC , and on TV from the day he took the job he has kept them at arms length , patronised them when they asked stupid questions and has bitterly stood up for the club , the players and supporters , even the likes of Braffheid after banning him from team duty..
Lenny has made it clear he will do all the talking that needs to be done , and when it suits him.. He's not taken the job to build up his ego or to carry out unfinished business , it's purely because he's driven to succeed at management and I don't think it matters what the press say about him as he's already dealt with more than most since he first arrived in Scotland..

Got to agree with the above. Don't think Lenny has courted the press. Lenny is well aware of how the press acts in Scotland and Glasgow. Only time will tell how he treats them, reacts to them, but if they turn on Lenny or the team, i can see him giving it to them with both barrels. He is fiercely loyal to the club and a clever guy, should be interesting !!!

Just completely disagree with you Jiko.

Here's a few snippets from The Sun when Mowbray first got on board:

"Tony Mowbray has a special bond with fans"
"Tony Mowbray: One in a million"
"Tony turns Scott (Brown) into a star"
"Hero"
"Tony Mowbray warns Rangers: We do not fear you!"
"Tony's Nancy boy (Nguemo) becomes one of the best in the land"

No I'm not exaggerating.

I remember a marked turn of reaction from Mowbray towards the red tops once we were knocked out of the UEFA Cup and started struggling domestically, and this was despite some pretty decent performances. He got absolutely ripped eventually.

I have no idea how you can say that Lennon distances himself from the press our patronises them. He is keeping them all on side now, in fact he's absolutely best buddies with them but how will he react once the going gets tough? Hopefully better than Mowbray.

I am happy he is the manager and I am also happy he decides who he want as a assistant, something you could see clearing he was happy with to.

I am probably in the minority hearing with saying that I didn't think he was the best footballer, but the leadership skills no doubt, driven us on to achieve all of the great results we had in his time at Celtic.

To talk about his management skills, I can only add that the way we he turned our team around in the last Quarter makes me think he has the gift of knowing how to lead, be it on the park or as the manager of our team.

I know people have the opinion of saying No because of whatever there reasons are. I just think they are dying to turn around and say told you so if it all goes wrong for him. A sad way of supporting your team.

What experience are you looking for:

CL ...........Well he has captain enough games to know how to win theses games
SPL.......... He is not short of anything their with 8 wins in a row.
Buying.......The three players he is linked with at the moment look good prospect
Selling.......Would it really be up to him if a big offer came in for someone
leadership.. He doesn't lack anything their
Tactics.......Hasn't been that bad so far, taking N’Guemo off in the cup maybe !!
His Staff.... They have a lot of input to give as well

If you think there is a better candidate then compare their credentials to Lenny and see how they come in. Then add to that the fact they coming into a bunch of players they don'y know.

All I can do is to wish him all the best. He'll have a very tough task ahead of him and many foxes waiting for him to make a mistake. I always liked him as a player and I truly hope that he'll turn into a bleedin good manager and bring us some joy this season. That could make him a long-term Celtic manager.

Form the names of potential candidates bandied about as being potential candidates for the job? Yes.....I am happy....What Lenny lacks in experience he will make up for with enthusiasm and will to win......He knows what winning.....and losing means to us Celtic fans. For the first time in a long long time I can put my head on the pillow at night and save in the knowledge the club is being managed by someone who actually cares about the club as much as we the fans do.

it's not like Tony Mowbray had no clue about celtic when he was announced as new manager. he also coached Hibs before, so he knew what the SPL was all about.

this is the biggest and most often argument for Lenny. he knows the club and the league very well. so did TM.
