Firstly im not quite sure what area your from secondly what country :p

Im going to guess Scotland and hope for the best!

Your 1st port of call for a apprenticeship is your local council and housing associations, these company's will start recruiting in high numbers around about June - August so their first year apprentices will be registered for collage intake come September. Councils/housing associations are one of your safest bets of a secure and full apprenticeship (no chance of being paid off mid way due to company going down the *)

Secondly you have your big company's (like ive said not sure where you are i can only say from my area) in Fife you have the Dockyard (Babcock), Diageo, BiFab plenty more just giving you a little example of company's most likely to be recruiting.

After that its the good old Yellow Pages just look under Builders, Plumbers,Joiners, Welders Engineers firms ect and either write loads of letters/emails or preferably phone them, if your taking this route would be your best option as if their not looking for someone you can often plant seeds into their heads and they might give it a good thought.

My two biggest pieces of advice is strike now as the longer you wait the less chance you will have like i said earlier most company's will be looking now to get you into your first year of collage starting in September. Secondly look for reputable company's you dont want to be left high and dry by some cowboy out to make a quick buck and * you over.

When i was looking for an apprenticeship i done all these things sent out loads had plenty of offers and interviews and opted for a council apprenticeship due to me seeing it as a secure job :) Good luck looking mate and i wish you all the best :)

Best of luck finding an apprenticeship in this economic climate mate.

I agree with the advice above, watch for the cowboys, i got taken on and as soon as my funding was released i was paid off and the company went out of work. 6months later i see the guy in a new van under a diff name which was only a couple of letters different.

Would avoid a one man band at all costs, very few see out there apprenticeships in this way.

I would say no but any kind of knowlage is a massive bonus like Craft and Design at High School for joiners stuff like that, the joy of apprenticeships are you will do 4 years the 1st two yours are week release to collage (usually two weeks work two weeks collage) you'll be taught everything :)
