I am concerned with the knock on effect of losing the league last year and now almost certainly this year too will have on our fan base. I fear APATHY will set in amongst our support, who will start voting with their feet and wallets, and stop coming to the games and buying season book tickets for next year, which would prove disastrous for the club and its support..

If this Apathy is allowed to continue unchecked, we could also see Celtic supporters even being fed up to post on the Celtic messageboards and forums around the country, and today the internet is the lifeblood and barometer of the club's health and well being.

I witnessed this same Apathy during the 9IAR by Rangers, and I have no wish to see that again, and allow Rangers by default to become the dominant force in Scottish Football for another era.

What can we do about this ?

If people don't go to the matches just because we're not top of the league then * them. They're not the kind of fans I'd miss anyway. My level of support for Celtic isn't based on how high up the league they are.

Very true mate. Im enjoying watching us play this season despite the downturn in results. I think Strachans team declining was missed by a lot of fans and Mogga is carrying all the frustrations of 3 years of decline.

Wish I could get to more ganes!

I know it's easy for me to say this but I would be there every weekend if I could get up more often.

What I am thinking of doing next year is buying 2 season ticket books , leave them with my famly and I will go to the games that I can make.
They can use them any other time.

My brother used to do this just up until 3/4 year ago.He now works abroad.

My turn to grab the baton!!!!!!!!!!:50:

I remember the days we used to hold the moral high ground over 'them'. In the 80's Ibrox was rarely full except for the visits of Us and Aberdeen. Regardless of the results in the 9-in-a-row years with half an hour left Ibrox would be half empty.
Even with dross put in front of us we used to pack CP to the rafters.
My theory is that although we sort of deep down knew we was a bit rubbish, at least the team put in the effort - todays team dont seem to, not saying they arent they just dont seem to have much fight. If the players aint up for it then its hard for the fans too. And vice versa.
My dad would kill for a season ticket (and the good health to be able to attend home games) so buying one and not turning up coz theres not much winning 5-0 going on atm kinda sucks.
Fair weather fans they used to be called.
I may not be TM's biggest fan, but if i had a ticket i would do my damndest to be there.

As a season ticket holder in the North Stand, the * and moanin that goes on during the game leads me to believe that some of the support use football as a way of getting away from shopping with the wife for a few hours!.
But be that as it may, even with entertaining football, Champions League etc, there are still people who expect us to win every single game week in week out 4-0, which doesn't happen.
Some misguided fans say I'm not coming back until we play certain players and then castigate the manager and player when the team loses or the player has an off day.
Celtic should be above this sort of short sited behaviour because it isn't what the club is built on.
Our fans are rightly praised for their unyielding support and loyalty when we are away from our home, but it just shows what some of our "home games only" support have to show for themselves, because they are two different and distinct animals.
If you win 1-0 against Hamilton at home or away you get pelters. If you win 3-2 against Hamiltion away or at home you get pelters - go figure.
I SEE IMPROVEMENT in the Mowbray tenure over the Strachan era, and any short sighted person can see that.
Just goes to show that success doesn't placate some of our support because we were boring to watch under Strachan.
As much as drawing 4-4 with Aberdeen on Saturday was disappointing it wasn't dull and I found it exciting to watch.
We'll get it right and I'm a patient man.
It is said that patience is a virtue and I think we should all have a little more of it and support the team

    wrong attitude shocking

I find your attiude shocking, myself and my mates were the ones who stood outside and inside Celtic Park protesting about the old board, and went thro torture, getting down to just 19/20000 watching games, but would never look down my nose at the ones who never turned up, because they were part of the revolution that got rid of those robbing *, we are all fans of this great club and passionate about them but to say * them is totally wrong, if they dont turn up well maybe it will give this board a kick up the * and not treat us like mindlessmorons without an view on how we should be run.

    shocking

Shocking you are not a true Celtic supporter, where were you at the protests, did you go to the games, with your attitude we wouldn't have a Celtic club because that old board put us oot the game, we all wear the badge on our heart but not blindly.

A lot of people can't afford to go anymore to watch sub-standard football. Many have lot jobs or just basically can't keep up with inflated prices.
Don't even know if I can afford it next year (gutted at this btw) simply because it is too expensive, £500-600 a season. Only work p/t and pretty much living on a student loan so paying this amount is just mad.

But yes there will be supporters who think their money could be spent better elsewhere, their choice. If they decide that they will not pay money to watch any more farcical seasons at CP let them be there will still be a lot of fans who would jump at the chance of a season ticket.

Here we go again FFS id rather have the supposed "3 years of decline" under Strachan than some of the * that has been served up this season, the Strachan haters amongst our support are unbelievable! i swear if we had won the Champions League under Strachan some fans would still have complained :31:

"We don't care if we win, lose or draw"...20 years ago, that line couldn't be truer.

I feel that the majority of today's fans, the one's who moan if we're not sitting pretty at the top of the pile all season long, don't respect other SPL teams and what they're capable of. I started supporting Celtic and following football in general around 95/96 so when MoN came in, and in hindsight, I regard myself as one of the "spoiled generation" yet my opinion and view on the current team and club couldn't be further from the majority of the fans around the same age as me.

This is in NO way a "I'm a better fan than you" post, so I hope noone takes it this way.

The point I'm trying to make is...since Jansen stopped 10 in a row, we have been spoiled for success (bar the odd season where Rangers have been incredibly lucky) and I felt that has built up a "holier than thou" attitude towards the rest of the teams in the SPL, which in turn, has built this huge wall of arrogance where we think we are entitled to unrivaled success with a * given right to whallop teams every week.

A horrible superiority complex has crept into our support.

I recall one part of a post from just the other day there, "we are Celtic, we demand immediate success".

If THAT is your opinion of this club, then you're supporting the wrong one.

It is really frustrating just now but I would never give up mine and my wee bhoys season book just cos we are not winning the league.we are not a terrible team we have been really unlucky with our defence. From the start of the season we have struggled for a settled back 4 due to injuries, suspension, poor form then punting our * ones

The Celtic support has changed massively over the last 20 years

REDBAZ your posts are spot on mate!

I must admit, I wasnt there at the protests, a bit young to be honest, and I wouldnt have been one of the guys there for MON or Robbie Keane either.

But I am as much of a Celtic supporter here as anyone else.

Financially, i am not in a great position, so I am starting to think bout my options seriously. We do not have a Henrik or a Lubo at Celtic park now, yet the prices go up. The standard gets worse, yet the prices go up. I mean, no matter how much you love the Celtic, they are a business, and treat us as such.

The reality is, that I am only a drop in the ocean, there are many many more Celtic fans feeling the pinch like myself, and if things dont improve (standard of player on the park, or the prices drop) then guys like myself will have to make a concsious decsision whether or not to give up the book at the end of the system.

Its the thing that makes me think about Robbie Keane, he wasnt Moggas signing, although he must have been trully delighted when the board advised he was coming. they knew the £65,000 would be easily covered by bums back on seats, and they will need to think along the same lines for the following few seasons, one or 2 big signings, on a different wage bracket (liek a lot of the english teams do, bracket wages by players) to get the guys to stay.

Cause as is, il be one of the ones who needs to give up, simply not value for money.

All teams have fair weather supporters, as soon as the other lot start losing games and the league, then they will suffer from fan apathy too. Its only natural, a lot go to the games for the feelgood factor that comes with winning and being able to rub the other lots noses in it. We dont have that at the moment, and even though we take the moral highground, we dont have the pleasure of watching our team winning or even playing good football. If, and i mean if we string together more than two games in a row that we win then hopefully some of the stay away lot will return.

I think a lot of fans feel that the board should have backed the management 2 years ago and buried Rangers deeper.

For a club that has not spent in 2 seasons, and us being a club with little or no debt, losing the league to Rangers, theres no excuse...

Rangers should have been buried deeper, and i feel thats where a lot of the apathy comes from too towards the club.
