As per title, has anyone managed to get an original creditor or debt collection agency to remove a defaulted account from your file?

I defaulted on a mobile phone contract a few years ago through being * skint :smiley-laughing002: anyway shortly after it defaulted I paid the remaining balance about 200 quid so it shows as satisfied on my file.

Fast forward to today I have an impeccable (except default obviously) credit history, loans, credit cards etc but even with all this the defaulted account * wrecks all of it.

Been reading online that you can get it removed, anyone been successful?

edit: It automatically gets taken off after 6 years but I'm trying to get a mortgage.

Tim you have to ask the mobile company to send you a copy of the the letter saying you will have a default on your record if you didnt pay it. If they cant supply that you can challenge it. Knew a guy that got a provident loan default removed doing this but it wasnt a quick. Process it took months. He basically annoyed and pestered them so much they done it to get him off their backs

Ask the company to get the default removed from record.
if they don't do so then call the FOS and they will contact the company.
Doesn't cost you anything as the calls are free.

It may take up to 8 weeks from your call as the company have that right to take that long.
    I managed it.
The company hadn't bothered to contact the credit reference agencies.

Make sure that when you want the credit file amended that it's from ALL 3 credit reference agencies Experian, Equifax and Callcredit.

Thanks will give that a try.

It really is ridiculous, for such a paltry amount as well it causes so much devastation to your "credit score"

I understand a negative mark has to be on your profile but £200 that was eventually paid completely destroys a profile that has over 20k of paid on time credit.

You can also use www.noodle.com (free) checkmyfile is 7.99 a month after the free trial.

I done a bit a digging and defaulted accounts can only really be removed if there was is genuine inaccuracies, like in your case by the sounds of it.
