Celtic Eye Sensational Move for Liverpool Star Andy Robertson as January Deal Looms
Celtic is gearing up to sign Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson, who is out of contract next summer. Robertson has had a successful career with Liverpool but has found himself on the bench this season. Celtic hopes to secure a deal in January for the seasoned Scotland international to continue playing regular football and contribute to their title defense.





Celtic have expressed an interest in signing Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Seasoned Scotland international Robertson is out of contract next summer and our sources understand Liverpool will let the 31-year-old leave in the January transfer window providing the price is right.

Robertson has played a significant role in Liverpool’s success during his time with the club, including two Premier League titles and a memorable Champions League title triumph in 2019.

But after nine seasons at Anfield, this season could prove to Robertson’s last having dropped down the pecking under boss Arne Slot.

The Premier League champions signed Hungary international Milos Kerkez in the summer as part of their extensive spending spree.

Kerkez has been Liverpool’s number one left-back this season with Robertson having made just three appearances this term, with all of them as a substitute.

He started the club’s 3-2 Champions League win over Atletico Madrid last month, but knows he face a real battle to win back his regular starting spot under Slot.



And our sources have learnt that Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is hoping to entice Robertson north of the border for a cut-price fee in January.

Liverpool are loathed to losing Robertson for a free in the summer and, although rumours of a new contract have circulated, it is understood the player wants to play regular football, especially as he looks to continue playing for the national team.

Robertson 12 caps shorts of a special century of games for his country and knows regular football is the best way of guaranteeing his place in Scotland boss Steve Clarke’s team.

With 348 career appearances under his belt, Robertson is also set to attract plenty more interest as his contract runs down.

But Rodgers is hoping to get a deal done in principle before the transfer window re-opens and get the defender on board as the club look to defend their Scottish Premiership title.

 

Take him in a heartbeat but there's no chance in this.

 

Our recruitment team will say he’s too wee.

 

If there's any truth to this (I know) it tells me we know Tierney can't play LB going forward and we maybe see him in a left sided CB role.

Robertson isn’t done. I think he has a few more years in him at least. He won the PL last season and while not being at his best, had some excellent moments.

I think Tierney as LCB is probably the best move for the career and for us, a backline of Robbo KT CCV and AJ would probably be the best in my lifetime

 

I dont like getting excited for older players etc but... it does have a good ring to it. Quality back up with scales and trusty.. it'd be amazing if we never won every game 0-0 with that back line.

 

Nope not for me .. he is at end stage of his career and has no longer the speed required to go up and down that wing. When did we become a * end stage career agency?? We done the worst thing in bringing back teirney and he cant get through 20 mins a game never mind 70 mins. There are players at 20 21 22 that can do a better job then them. Our scouts should be scouring all over the continent instead of having a look in Shoot or Roy of rovers magazine ffs

Need...a mooy ...a moravcik ...a petrov ... a Jimmy Johnstone.. agathe... bonnar.. virgil... we need a * lot but not anyone right near the end of their career. Ffs we need progression not regression. We need to plan for the next 4. Or 5 years. I'm fed up getting * retirees or near retirees Into our club.

There's a good left back going round called Taylor. Wonder if he's available

 

4/5 years... we need to plan for 2/3 at most. Otherwise we end up with this limp uninterest want away sqaud.

He’s done at the top of his level but at our level he would cruise it.

I have always thought he is a bit overrated but him and McGinn sound like they have always left that door open to us.
