Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson's agent says a number of clubs have registered an interest in the player.

The 32-year-old has failed to force his way into manager Gordon Strachan's plans since he replaced Martin O'Neill.

Agent Tony McGill told BBC Scotland Thompson would listen to offers from other clubs as he needed first-team football at this stage of his career.

Thompson, whose contract expires at the end of the season, joined Celtic for £2.75m in 2000.

The Newcastle-born player - capped once for England - has seen his first-team opportunities limited by the form of Shaun Maloney, Jiri Jarosik and Aiden McGeady.

i'd like to say thanks to alan for his service during his spell with us.

cant quite fathom how it all seemed to go so pear shaped for alan in the last few years but on his game he was one of my favourite players.

sad he's leaving.

he served us well.

 

He did that. Not a truly brilliant player, bar a few choice left footers, but fought for the cause and never shirked a challenge. A strong character on the pitch
