Cagliari’s Adam Obert featured for Slovakia at the U21s European Championships and the defender is now attracting attention from Celtic.



The centre-back joined the Sardinian side from Sampdoria in 2021 and has played 86 times for the club, featuring across Serie A and Serie B.


Unione Sardia report that the 22-year-old is wanted by Celtic this summer and the Hoops have already proposed a figure. While the amount of the suggested bid isn’t known, the outlet reveal it has been rejected by Cagliari.



Celtic failed to reach the asking price for the Slovakian, but there’s still confidence of a sale if the right amount – which isn’t specified – is offered.

Obert signed a new deal at Cagliari in January and his contract now expires in 2029.

That is why Fabio Pisacane’s side are not going to let the player depart cheaply. The Slovakia international joined on a free transfer, so any fee is a capital gain and Celtic will be aware of that.

Can’t see this happening with the amount of CBs we have at the club just now. Besides we need other areas strengthened first

 

Doesn't make sense at all this window. Linked to another CB when we just signed one. Yet no links to any wingers when we haven't even replaced Kuhn is complete bewildering.

 

It could be that we went for him before signing JSP but couldn’t agree a price, where have we heard that before? Now the story is just getting out.

Alternatively given he can cover left back, there is a a lot of rumours about Trusty being away by the end of the month along with Welsh out and Murray loaned so Obert may be viewed as someone that can cover both left centre back and left back.

I genuinely believe we have made such a mess of this window so far we are now struggling to even move on guys that we might want to because we don’t have their replacements in. It’s like taking on a task and just giving up because it’s difficult and making do.

 

By the way, would absolutely love him here. Him and CCV at the back would be incredible but that would be 6 centre backs, including Murray.

CCV, Obert, JSP, Trusty, Scales, Murray. We also still have Welsh on the books.

Maybe looking to offload Trusty. I'd be willing to give Trusty another season but I absolutely would trade him for this boy. He's a * unit and very good with the ball at his feet. Surprised we are even being linked to him if I'm honest. Was sure one of the bigger teams in Serie A would have been chasing him. Maybe not ready for a Juventus/Inter/Milan but definitely thought Atalanta, Roma or Lazio would have been asking the question about him.

 

Another CB linked, wonder if one of Scales/Trusty is leaving this window.

I think it is a dead cert Trusty is leaving. Obert looks the real deal.

Actually watching those clips he could easily be a defensive mid, looks brilliant on the ball.
