Roy Keane did it because he felt he didn't need such high wages. Read his autobiography, he explains his decision in there. My point is, firing accusations like that was out of order and uninformed.

probably for the same reason he turned down a 2 year extension from sunderland on the wednesday and resigned on the thursday.he's an honorable man!

and as for keane leaving man u for a lower league english team, why would he?if it hadn't worked out with celtic he had the choice of real madrid ,juve and one of the milans.and tell me of a player in the lower leagues of england who could boss a game at ibrox the way roy keane did when he played there in the hoops?

I just hope this wee guy gets the opportunity to prove he can make it at Celtic.

It doesn't bother me one bit where we get the players from, just look at Ribery at Bayern, he was playing French 2nd division football till he was in his early 20's. And there is a certain wee fella we got from Feyenoord for peanuts and was a pretty unknown player at the time.

It does bother me that we have signed guys like McCourt, Mizuno and Hutchison and not seen much of them at all... lol I don't see them in training, so maybe a good thing. But maybe even as a late sub regularly would give us a wee look at what kind of players they are.

To any fans complaining about signing non superstars, just calm down a wee bit, give the club a break... I too would love us to go out there and spend £££'s on guys like Modric and Arshavin, but as previously stated, we are not Man U or Liverpool with millions to spend even on bench players, we can't really compete with any team in the English Premiership.

The board aren't willing to put us in any finacial trouble, and thats a good thing. It doesn't mean they are penny pinchers, it just means they are good at thier job in getting the best deals for Celtic. Honestly think about it... If we had the chance to sign Messi for 60k a week and a 10 mil signing fee, I think the board would find the cash with no problem, but it doesn't work that way does it.

I'm not ranting, :celt_2: I've been * off at the thought we can't outbid teams like Sunderland and Portsmouth before. But its something that won't change unless we are owned by a Arabian prince or the transfer market gets capped, and we all know that'll never happen!

    Hail Hail :shamrock:

It's obvious you have no point to make, and are just quietly surrendering in a thinly veiled attempt to make it seem as if you aren't completely in the wrong (ie by running away from the point).

Hes an honourable man or a chicken?? Whats honourable about him spending a fortune on new players then walking out on them when the chairman wants you to stay. Hes didnt really give the club a chance, does he expect to change the club overnight?? lololol

he pretty much did change the club overnight.bottom after four games, all defeats,he brought them up as champions and then achieved what sunderlands last 3 managers failed to do and kept them up.

and he refused to sign that contract on the grounds that he didn't deserve it(when he could have easily have signed it and left with compo).i don't know how well your moral compass is working but on mine thats pointing towards honourable.

    You're less a fan then I!

This thread is full of stupidity at the moment. :icon_mrgreen:

I don't know much about McGinn, never seen him play, but I look forward to possibly seeing him and then evaluating his performance thereafter.

Celtic have beaten Wigan,Birmingham, Swansea and Derby to sign iall McGinn.

McGinn is a Celtic fan so this is his dream move.

He plays on either wing but IMO he is better on the right wing and beats players with ease. He has great speed and for only having played one full season as a full-timer his progress has been remarkable.Winning the league of Irelands YPOTY, man of the match in the recent F.A.I. cup final and having a stand out debut for N.Ireland.

As a closet Celtic fan and someone who watches them alot, I have a few points to make on some of the things I have read on here this past few months. Since Paddy McCourt and Niall McGinn have come in all I have read about how they are not good enough, wont take us to the next level or wont get us to the last 8 of the CL.

First off can I say this is not a dig at Celtic but being realistic. Celtic are a massive club. They have 1 European Cup which put them firmly on the mat. But things have changed majorly in that competition sice Celtic won it. This "Last 8 of the CL" talk is quite laughable tbh.

Celtic havnt won an away game in 22 odd games in the CL. To think about getting to the stage mentioned above you have to be consistent in the CL and be good home and away. Celtic simply are not that. Lets be honest Celtic have many times punched above their weight in this competition.

Now dont get me wrong the opposition week in week out is poor, but I just dont see how Celtic fans can consider they should be getting to that stage of the competition. I'd love to see them there but i'm a realist. McGinn and McCourt are 2 fantastic players. I heard that some of the coaching staff at Celtic said of McCourt "The most naturally gifted player in the squad when in a one-on-one situation"

Now are randomers like me or any other person on this site going to sit and argue with this coaches, people who work with these players every day. One or Two from Derry on this site would do better to support their local team first and foremost. Your hometown club needs you more than Celtic. Its cheaper to come to the Brandywell and watch Derry than get on a ferry and travel to Glasgow every other week.

Anyway, the best of luck to Niall McGinn, a raw talent who will be a great prospect for Celtic

CtID, we were what, 20 minutes away from a penalty shoot out against Milan for the last 8 (which Artur would have won for us)

Very true mate, but three league of Ireland teams got further in europe than the huns,

I think because Derry is in the north people here think it;s a * league but Derry play in the south of Ireland leagye which is like black and white compared to the N.I. league for standard.

Take out us and the huns and the L.O.IRELAND is higher ranked than the SPL.

Don't make the mistake about the * irish league compared to the southern irish league. Thats where McGinn played this year.

I saw him play and so many people n here will eat humble pie.

Its ok man, I saw him play this year too. He has raw potential and I think Celtic can get the best out of him and he can become a good first team player
