Wikis not really a credible source lol, that was proved through appiah being announced as apparently signin for us on that, which proved to be a joke lol. None the less he looks like he has a bit of talent.

I dont look at other americans to judge what this player is like - from what i can see there is a limited number of clubs in for him. If he was as good as some think surely lots of clubs would be in for him given the figures banded about.

Truth is he is lightweight and has shown, at times, in a poor league.

FC Twente, Anderlecht, Leverkusen, Celtic, Heerenveen, Olympiakos, Wolfsburg, and especially Zenit St. Petersberg have all expressed serious interest in him. I'm not saying this is enough to say we should sign him, but I am saying that you are clearly wrong that nobody else has expressed interest.

In fact, a good amount of those seem quite suspect.
For instance, Wolfsburg already has a massive squad and just spent a couple million on Okubo who Magath claims to have wanted for years.
Olympiakos is known to be (fruitlessly) chasing Davi -- who they claim hasn't signed a contract with his new team even though he has.
I can't see Leverkusen pursuing anyone under 6'5.
And Zenit is the knew "Arsenal" when it comes to dropping team names. They're a red flag of "bullshit" all on their own.

Finally, with teams like that listed... and he goes on trial at Celtic? No offense, but it just doesn't add up. Maybe a few of them made inquiries... but inquiries don't mean as much as Yanks Abroad or Ives like to think they do.

I've dropped off on my interest since my viewing a few days ago, but that doesn't change the fact that most of those clubs were interested. I'm pretty sure Twente made a hard offer and Zenit confirmed interest but then backed off. They are the only club I would say is "better" than us from that list so I don't understand your "and he goes on trial at Celtic?" comment... and nice job with the YA/Ives name drop. I guess it's a good thing I didn't look at either of them for my source.

As far as inquiries vs. hard offers, you didn't specify that at first. All I'm saying is other clubs have been interested. The fact you didn't think so makes me think you don't watch him a lot. It was akin to when McNaka said his off the ball movement was poor, it's just something you just wouldn't say if you actually watched him. It's like saying Donati can't hit killer passes. Maybe his game is poor but you picked the wrong thing to criticize him on.

Here's what shows up when you search FC Twente and Kljestan...

Soccer By Ives: Afternoon Ticker: Twente eyeing Kljestan, Benfica signs Suazo and Milner to Villa

Can it be tiem for me to roll my eyes now?

Also... his off-ball movement does suck, as does Donatis' passing.

i think we be better off offering Huszti, Stilic or Sharbini an extra 3-5 k a week instead of this fella

Huszti anyway,if we can get him on a free in the summer throw an extra 50 k or so in his direction over a 3 or 4 year contract, still a bargain.

Donati's passing doesn't suck... his concentration sucks. When he puts his mind to it he can spray the ball around like nobody except Crosas maybe can do from our squad. The problem is he almost never has that concentration. And I've heard good, intelligent people compliment his off-the-ball movement while criticizing weak facets of his game such as strength. It just seems you picked an odd area to pick on him for.

Donatis' long ball is good. That's the only positive thing you can say for his passing ability.
I'm sure those "good, intelligent people" :56:(why don't you just come out and say what you're trying to imply...) all watch and rate MLS too. Maybe in MLS his off-ball movement is acceptable. It certainly hasn't been in that matches I've watched. His entire game looked substandard and he was completely classed off the field in all 3 olympic games.
Unless we're counting Swedens' B squad I guess.

Hey guys ust signed up. :bbpd:

Mcnaka, you've never really watched Kljestan at all if you think his movement is poor. I don't watch the MLS or rate it at all, either, but I've watched all the USA youth teams for the past 10 years. Classed off the field in all 3 olympic games? Man did you really even watch those games? He, along with the entire team, were poor against Japan. Then Kljestan absolutely tore it up against the Netherlands. His off the ball movement was fantastic and he got a great goal to show for it. Against Nigeria he was solid, took his late PK well, and the team did ok despite playing with 10 men virtually all game. Kljestan has great movement, great finishing, some decent passing and overall is just a good attacking player.

If you want to talk about Kljestan's negatives, movement is not one of them. My complaint about him in the past is that he is a turnover machine. He gives the ball away a lot, makes errant passes and tries to make too many killer passes that go astray. He also seems a little light weight to play in the Scottish league right away. Definitely needs to bulk up a little.

That being said, I am probably one of the only people who thinks he should join you guys instead of the other rumored teams from Germany. I think learning how to play tougher and faster in the Scottish league would make him a really complete box to box mid.

He was poor against Nigeria and Japan, and I think you're mistaking 15m of good play for a good game. The Dutch got arrogant at halftime and came out like there was nothing left to play for. Outside of that one period of play, he was poor.
If we can get him for a mil or less... he's worth taking a risk on.

No he wasn't poor against Nigeria. He was poor against Japan but so was the entire US team. Netherlands played well for the first 15 minutes then they got played off the field until they were rescued in the final minute. They were actually lucky to be only down 2-1 at that point.

Clearly, man, you either didn't watch the games or are a huge hater of the US teams and Kljestan. I think its the latter and you don't have a really fair observation of Kljestan as a player. I used to not rate Kljestan at all. I saw Kljestan be a pretty useless youth international and then a terrible senior international during the 2007 copa america. He has come a long way the past couple of seasons and seems like a great prospect at a reasonable price. Whether that price is some Celtic can afford to pay for a player who may or may not work out is something I don't know.
